Martha stewart has been collecting and knitting her dog's (PawPaw's) long hair... he's a fluffy chow... and shes making a sweater for her other dog!! ???

i guess its the same concept of brushing and taking hair from an angora rabbit. but...  a coat for another dog???

OK this is eerie. Just today there was a lady on the BBC Breakfast show, talking about knitting her Samoyed's fur into sweaters. She said it was what was shed in the normal way during normal grooming, she just makes the dog stand on a sheet.Apparently it's not the easiest stuff in the world to spin.

If you're not hurting the dog to get the fur, personally (and it's just MHO, no flaming please) I don't see anything wrong with using it for spinning or other fibre art, instead of just tossing it in the trash. Most dogs (and indeed cats) enjoy being gently groomed when they're shedding; I suppose the loose fur is itchy and uncomfortable.

I think I agree. This reminds me..I'm sure some of you watch Project Runway (like I do)..this is kind of similar to Chris' final collection of human hair clothes..a little odd-but creative!

I'm not saying it's cruel or anything--just seems kinda gross! The whole thing creeps me out--but hey...if people want to make cloths out oftheir pets fur then by all means...have fun!  :P

i usually just joke that i wear fur everyday since i'm usually covered in cat fur anyways.  ::)

Me too Baypuppy! I find cat hair in everything--just yesterday I was at school in my art studio and I found my cat Fiona's hair in some paint! I'm like is she hiding in my back pack????

My beloved Saul departed this life almost 5 years ago, and yet once in awhile I STILL find his hair clinging to things. It's almost like a telegramme from the other side of the water...

years and years ago (I think I was about 9) I made a pillow and stuffed it with my dog's fur - he's huge and fluffy and sheds like crazy. well, I didn't clean the fur first, and the pillow smelled funny. I think I might have tossed it :)
