Found a kitten, uber cute

Saturday morning, while trying to go to work at the co-op, I saw three women chasing a kitten down the street. I thought it was one of their kittens, and got out to help because it kept running into the street and I live on a really busy main road. 20 terrifying heart-in-your-throat minutes later, the kitten was caught and... it belonged to no one, no one can take it. Can you see the "SUCKER" written across my forehead now? Yep. Thought he was feral, put him in my cat's "travel" crate (which is a large dog crate), put in some food and water and a litter box, and went to work, planning on giving him to a rescue organization on Monday. Spoke to kitty rescue on Sunday, they told me they've got no room, no other rescue places/shelters are taking anything because they're all so full. Pair that with "my boyfriend is in love with the kitten" and it looks like we've got a third cat. He's calmed down, and is now a real sweetie who purrs and purrs and is a total lap cat. He took a nap on the couch with my bf yesterday and just snuggled and purred the whole time. We brought him to the vet yesterday, and other than the usual parasites (ear mites, worms -- I took care of the fleas on Saturday), he's healthy. Felv/FIV neg. He's in the 10-12 wk age range, though bony thin, but he eats well and I got him a good no bi product no corn food so he should fatten up quick. No name yet, but I'm open to suggestions. My requirements are, however, that it isn't a name that obviously describes him (no "pumpkin") and no human names that one might actually name a human (i.e. one of my other cats is "Atticus" but I'd never actually name a human that).

Here are some pics!
(He's polydactyl!)

YAY!  :D
I have no ideas for a name right now but I have to tell you that is the cutest little thing I've seen in a while. Good for you.

I'll think on a name.  He's awesome.

What a cutie, and you are too sweet for taking him in!

I would name him Radar, in honor of those ginormous ears!

But the name can't describe a physical attribute.  Maybe if he was named for Radar O'Reilly.  It's  a person's name, but no one would name someone that.  That's get ya around the naming rules.

Can't directly describe a personal attribute. Like "Atticus" skirts both rules because he's a black cat, and Atticus Finch defended a black man in To Kill A Mockingbird... but it's not an obvious connection. I would have never named him Shadow or Midnight or Sooty though. Thus Radar is a clever description, though I suspect he'll grow into his ears, and he may need a name with more pizazz to compete with the other cats' names. Enjoying my pet naming neurosis? :D

My other cat is Monchichi if that gives you a better idea of pet naming style. I had suggested Sir Didymus, the little orangy dog guy from Labryinth who rides the bigger dog... but my bf vetoed it. I do like dorky literary and pop culture references.

OOOOOOOOO!  You could name it Scout!

He is beautiful!!!!

Lucky you - my husband and I decided to stick with two cats, but if one that needed a home crossed my path like that, he would come home with me (so sometimes I hope one will  ::))

As far as names, how about Amadeus? I guess that is a human name, but that is the name I first thought of looking at him.

Khafre (pronounced KAH-fray)
That's the name of the Pharoah who's face is on the Sphinx.  It's more art history or anthropology nerd than literary nerd, but I always thought it would be a cool name for a cat.  And your little guy reminds me of the cats in Egyptian art, especially in the 2nd and 6th pics.

gaaaawwww, quit that!
My face is melting from cuteness!

From now on, there needs to be a NSFAL tag on cute stuff like this--Not Safe for Animal Lovers!....it could be subcategorized into NSFAL- :(  and NSFAL- :D  .
:( means it's gory/unpleasant for animal lovers/sympathisers...and :D means it will make you die of cute overload.

Your kittie reminds me of a friend of mine's cat...his name is Battle Cat.  srsly.  he is fucking awesome.
You could try calling him by some warrior or kick-ass Greek figure, like Apollo.
From Wiki: "The ideal of the kouros (a beardless youth), Apollo has been variously recognized as a god of light and the sun; truth and prophecy; archery; medicine and healing; music, poetry, and the arts; and more. Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto, and has a twin sister, the chaste huntress Artemis."

Zeus, Leto, or Artemis would be great, too. Art, for short, ha!  it doesn't matter that two of them are female, realy.... I named my girl ratties Brandybuck and Pippin after the two male hobbits (Merry and Pippin), and they fit them well. they're also androgynous enough (and I can also call the first one Brandy, too) that it's no biggie even for traditionalists.

My bf had a guinea pig named Battle Potato.  :-D

The bf is warming up to Sir Didymus the Many Toed. He even referred to him as "Did" last night. I showed him the scene in Labryinth when they meet Sir Didymus and he said he did remind him of the kitten. So, his name might be Sir Didymus.

Here's some more pictures of the snugglebug.

I saw him and immediately thought of Egyptian sphinxes!

He does have the narrow face and huge ears.

I think what gets me about him is his posture - like he's ready to enjoy whatever adventure he faces - from being chased by people in the street to neck scratches on a lap.

Yes! Sir Didymus!! He's one of my favorite creatures from the Labyrinth, ohmygoodness....and his little doggie, Ambrosius! ohh, I love that movie.

Adding "the many toed" just makes it about thrice as awesome. Did and Diddy are great nicknames, too.

Diddy reminds me of P. Diddy a lot.  :-\
