The ongoing pet food recall has spotlighted the need for better regulation of the pet food industry. New federal legislation introduced May 1 by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) and Sen. Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) aims to do just that. In a remarkable demonstration of how important this issue is, the U.S. Senate approved a Durbin amendment on pet and human food safety just one day after the bill was introduced—by a resounding vote of 94 to 0!
