Wanna help me name my new pet moth?

.....Moth orchid, that is!! :D A phalaenopsis orchid, by its formal name.

At the flower market this morning, they had some potted orchids marked down to a third their normal cost, since they'd lost most of their buds. I picked one with only one dud bud, and promptly decided I had to have it. So I took it back, along with the rest of the flowers for work, and sold it to myself. :)>>>

Eee, izn't eet PRETTY?! :agree?:

Moths molt from catterpillers--why not Cati? or Motti--the old norse word for moth?

Hespy, you are brilliant!! If I need to name something (a plant, a character on a video game...), I always name it Pete!!!! D thinks I'm strange, but it's the best name ever. I used to have an umbrella named Pete, I miss him. So yep, two votes for Pete!! ;)b

I was gonna say Sunbonnet Sue, but I think that Sunbonnet Squishy would be lovely.

I don't think anything that can't at least look annoyed when you call its name (like a cat) should be named.  Unless a name just seems to attach itself to the object.  I had a 1976 AMC Pacer that the licence plate began UGY so it was called Uggie.  It fit so well.  But have fun with your orchid's name.  It's good for a chuckle.  :-D

Oh, duh! (Slaps forehead).
Nero. As in Nero Wolfe.
In reality his creator, Rex Stout, did grow orchids by the thousand.
Rex is a good name too.

It always bothered me a bit that Mr Stout created a character named Saul Panzer. Hm. The only thing is the first NW novel is from 1934. Did they have Panzer divisions then?

Huh?  Why is that remarkable?  Is Panzer a type of orchid?

What name did you pick? I'm guessing Whitey.

Um---world history---Panzer divisions were the tank divisions of the nazi army.... ::) I wondered if there was some kind of insult there, since Mr Panzer was the "best operative in existence" and "could have worked as a spy."

I've read nearly everything Mr Stout ever wrote. I love the fact that Nero remained "about 56" and Archie remained in his late 20s, early 30s for about 45 years.
