Favorite Vegan Cookbook

Hey all!  I was looking on Amazon, trying to decide which new vegan cookbook to purchase, when I realized I had the most reliable source of information right here!  I also thought that everyone listing their favorites would be a helpful resource for the whole group.  So which are your favorites??

Thanks!

Oh no, threads like this always lead to new cook book purchases!  ;)

I like How It all Vegan & Vegan with a Vengeance.

VWAV is nifty-- just acquired it and I like it a lot!

I also recommend "Southern Vegetarian Cooking" by Ann Jackson.  Same story-- delicious food, very omni-friendly.  NOT health food, though-- she does a lot of frying, etc.  And she's not vegan, but most of the recipes are veganizable.  It annoys some readers because she is imprecise with seasonings and so forth ("as much as you like," or "one big handful"), but I have had very good luck getting good results from these recipes anyway.

my absolute favourite cookbook of all time is myra kornfield's "the voluptuous vegan." this is the best organized, most varied cookbook i've ever read. the recipes are easy to use and range from simple and quick to more complicated and satisfying meals, and everything comes out perfect the first time you try them.
seriously, i can't say enough about this book. i've never seen anything to equal it. the recipes are organized into complete meals, so you never have to wonder about what will go well with something you've never tried before.
she utilizes recipes that come from all sorts of cultures... they're simplified so that you don't need to travel to the ends of the earth to get the right ingredients, but they're incredibly authentic tasting. this woman is magic! i don't really like using cookbooks because i find i usually come out uninspired, but i could (and have) read this book from cover to cover, sometimes when i'm not even looking for something to cook. she will turn you into a confident and inspired cook, and you'll find that within days of reading some of her recipes, you'll be faultlessly coming up wth your own.

There is a Border's bookstore very close to the strip that he could take a taxi too. Also, there is a small bookstore in the Mandalay Bay hotel. I think your best bet is to call the borders and ask them to get a copy in stock so he can just pick it up there. Here's the info:
Las Vegas - S. Decatur
2323 S. Decatur Boulevard
Las Vegas, NV 89102
Phone: 702.258.0999

I live in Las Vegas.  The bookstore above is fairly close to the strip, but not really really close (it would be too far to walk).  Depending on where he is staying, this Barnes and Noble on the on the east side of the strip may be closer (but again, probably too far to walk):  Both are less than a 10 minute car ride from the strip if traffic is good.

3860 Maryland Parkway
Las Vegas, NV 89119
702-734-2900

There is also a small Borders in the airport, but if he calls ahead as suggested they should be able to get it for him :)

La Dolce Vegan!
The garden of vegan is a very close second.  It would have been first but ever since I made wolffies coffee cake (it's in the breakfast AND the dessert chapter) I have been hooked on la dolce vegan.

Vegan1 and Hopfrog - Thank you soooo much for the info, a thousand thousand blessings to you both! He usually stays in Mandalay Bay too, so he might not need to venture too far from a table! Once again, thank you. x K :-*

Very Vegetarian by Jannequin Bennett has become a favorite.  Her potato rolls recipe was the first successful yeast bread I've ever made.  In fact, I'm going to try to set some time aside to make a batch and freeze about half.  They heat up well in the oven and are so satisfying with mushroom stew or split pea soup!  :)

VWAV, How it All Vegan, The Garden of Vegan, La Dolce Vegan, Everyday Vegan be Dreena Burton as well as Vive Le Vegan by Dreena too. It (vlv) has alot of recipes with hemp in them. I want to see Voluptuous Vegan cause I've heard lots of good stuff.

You guys are all awesome!  I am new to veganism (totally LOVING it), and right now I only have Vegan Planet.  Not for long though.... I ordered a bunch of the books you all recommended from Amazon and was lucky enough to pick up a couple vegan resources from my favorite used bookstore!

Woohoo to Vegweb!! And woohoo to all of you!  ;D

VWAV - I think this is my husband's favorite he loves to just sit and read it! LOL

I use The Ultimate Uncheese to refer to for flavor additions (i.e. a certain kind of cheese flavor = more or less lemon juice) but I don't tend to use it as an everyday recipe book. And I have yet to mold an "uncheese" from the book but it was great to learn about how to create flavors with nutritional yeast.

I LOVE Jennifer McCann's Vegan Lunch Box Cookbook.
I have a toddler who's tastes are similar to her son's and I try to make my husband something to take to work as often as I can... So this is a REALLY helpful book for me personally.

For the most part we use this website to get ideas and recipes and usually tweak them to our own tastes. I find many recipes on this site have been played with and the comments that follow often make it easier to manipulate the recipes than those found in book.
