Boston Veg Food Fest - November 1, 2008

Thats right! Its that time of year again for the Boston Vegetarian Food Festival.

Ok, so I just checked out the link I posted.  Look at those speakers!  I so cannot wait to go.  I plan to drive there (right through Hartford by the way!) and arrive a bit before it opens.  That way tasting everything before the crowds can cause havoc.  Plus I want to see almost all the speakers.

Who's with me?

KMK,  as the date gets closer shoot me a pm or give me a call if you want to ride with.  I plan on leaving early enough to get to Boston by 10am so I would probably be in Hartford about 7:30am.  Early I know, but its a 3 hour drive for me, 2 for you.

Zealia, wanna come?  :D

My mil has decided to do a "Girls day in Boston" day on Nov 1st! I am hoping that I will be able to stop by.  This is the only stop I care about but I am not sure the rest of the group agree. Are you guys going to be there all day? If not what time frame do you think?  I would love to hear T. Colin Campbell and Jae Steele speak.  They are at lunch time and I am sure someone will want to eat at that time instead. :'( Anyway, I have never met anyone from the internet before...so if I get up the guts and recognize any of you...maybe I will dare to approach you and say "hi."

My goal is to be there all day, mainly because I really do want to hear all but two of the speakers.  hahah

I can PM my cell number to you THHF!  Or I can just make myself a VWesque shirt like Dinkfeet did last year.  haha  Was bright green tee shirt with VegWeb on the back and her name on the front.  Too cute!

I see it's a long drive for some.  If there is interest in the Scottish Ceiledh dancing thing that some of us Bostonites are going to, it'll probably end later in the eve so you might need a place to stay.
Celtkat and I both have couch/floor space at our apartments.  While it may not be a full-blown slumber party, vegan ice cream will be had!  8)

OH MY- I just checked out that link and it looks SO awesome that I am entertaining the crazy idea of coming from VA.  It would be worth it to hear T. Colin Campbell speak and meet him!!

Cali, can you please PM me when you have a chance?  I have a few questions for you...

Thanks!

JW has a nice crib. FTR. lots of pink.  :)>>>

I had to run downstairs to confirm this and you're right!  All of the carpets and blinds are pink.  How could I not notice this before?  I'm living in a pink apartment.  :o  It's fine and all.... just surprising. ;D

I'm officially IN for this, thanks largely to the generous hospitality of Cali.  Looking forward to the Fest and meeting everyone going- including you, Zealia!

I would love to come to this, I wanted to go last year but was unable to. I am coming from the south shore area in MA, and most likely coming by myself. I would love to finally meet some of  fellow veg-webbers. Would we have a meeting place??  Also for people who went last year, how's the parking situation? Thanks :)

Yay more people!  I dont recall the parking situation being a problem but I got there almost an hour before it opened last year.  hahah

I am planning on watching the bolded speakers from the list of all of them below:
10:45 AM — Vegan Travel Tips and Q & A with Sarah Kramer
11:30 AM — Meat Production's Impact on Climate Change and the Environment - Danielle Nierenberg
12:15 — Cooking Demo and Nutrition Talk: Favorite Whole Foods to Energize You Throughout the Day - jae steele, RHN
1:30 PM — Understanding the Evidence for a Plant-Based Diet - T. Colin Campbell, PhD
2:30 PM —  Thanking the Monkey: Rethinking the Way We Treat Animals - Karen Dawn
3:30 PM — The Latest in Human Nutrition 2008 - Michael Greger, MD
5 PM — Passionate about Dessert - Hannah Kaminsky

So it is possible to meet at or around noon near the front of the venue.  I probably wont have time to make myself a cool shirt but lets hope Dinkfeet wears hers!

VegFest was a blast!  I have video, pictures and a still full belly!

GreenT, her fiance M and I left my house at 6:45am yesterday.  We drove to Boston and got in a bit after 9, so we had time to search for a store to buy camera batteries at.  Which we did successfully find but it took a while!  Then we went in.  We waited for the doors to open excitedly and warmly.  It was toasty in there!

The difference this year was that a big crowd showed up at opening instead of a rush mid afternoon.  So it was pretty jam packed all day that I was down nosing around the exhibitors.  I will share more of what I ate on my blog but I hope to have video linked here sometime today!

I captured all of Sarah Kramer's talk (in two segments) and all of T. Colin Campbell's talk (again in two segments).  Should be awesome!

I had a total blast this weekend!!  The fest was super crowded which is always great to see, and the samples- wow!  When we got home today we dumped out our goodie bags like trick-or-treaters!  One of my fest purchases was the best vegan cheese I've tasted so far called "teese".  It's SOOOO good you'd swear it was cheese if you didn't know any better- it lacks that weird processy taste most soy cheeses have.

The highlight of the fest for me was T. Colin Campbell's speech.  We got to meet him afterward and talk with him for a few minutes.  He's working on acquiring funding to help raise awareness and get his information to the public- he said it has been tough with the bad economy.  But overall it was very uplifting hearing him speak and talking to him!!!

After the fest we had dinner & grabbed a few drinks at a nearby bar.  And what night would be complete without stopping at a ALL VEGAN PIZZA SHOP??  I miss Boston already!  And of course, it was great meeting so many vegfriends.  I had a wonderful 2 night stay at hotel Cali-fornia: can't thank you enough Cali!!

It was a pleasure to host you and M, greenT!!

Side note: Can anyone help me out with my video?  Either detailed instructions on where to upload it or an offer to do so for me, titles and such would be awesome as well but I dont have anything that would work that.  Hepl!!
