Chicagoland vegweb get together anyone?

Anyone in the chicago area want to do a vegweb get together? I'm just fact finding right now. If you are interested let me know what days are best for you and your favorite veg place. I know some people are reliant on public transportation so lets keep that in mind!

i got there at like 4:15!!  waited around til they opened to see if anyone else would show up or come back at 5.. they didn't  :-[ so i took myself out to dinner anyway.  i wasn't about to go home and not get a meal out of it.. especially after driving like 35 minutes to get there.  i'm so glad i stayed though.. i had the vegan gyro which was so so so delicious. i know i'll be going back there again for it.  i also had a giant piece of vegan peanut butter cheesecake with chocolate ganache on top, i had to take over half of it home it was so big!  it was so good and super creamy though.  i'm so bummed we missed eachother cephi!

this is what i looked like standing out front of the restaurant for 45 minutes  :(

we should plan another one, and this time make sure the place will be open. (obviousely)

Wow, now I'm glad it conflicted with the play (which was good!)  I would have driven 2.5 hours (one way!) and paid all those tolls for nothing!

So sorry it turned out that way :(

Sorry guys. I broke up with my boyfriend this weekend and don't have internet on a daily basis anymore. The last time I had checked on Thursday no one had replied that they were going so I decided to forgo the hour and a half drive. Instead I spent the day moving  :( Maybe we can try it again sometime with a bit more planning.

We should definitely try it again...The idea of a vegan gyro is going to be haunting me until i try one. Does it come with a sort of creamy dipping sauce (like the ones where i used to get non-veg gyros)? Yum! And i really would love to meet you all- i don"t know any other vegans :(

sorry to hear about that tanevab, i totally understand that you'd have a ton of things running through your head when going through something like that.  no worries.

linsdsayloo:  yes the gyro comes with a creamy cucumber dipping sauce which really sets it off.  without it, it's really good.. but with the sauce, it's amazing.  (idunno how it compares to a non-veg gyro since i've never had one, they always sounded disgusting.. same goes for biscuits & gravy but i ate a veg version today at a restaurant and it was really good!)

i was also thinking maybe a vegan cookie exchange in time for the holidays..?

Great idea, let's have a cookie exchange! My mom always brings home two dozen different types of cookies- none of which are vegan, of course... no fun.

yeah we should pick a day and then coordinate who brings what.. so we end up with a good variety. mmmmm!  this will be so fun!

If you guys schedule a date again I'll make the drive over.  What's 5-6 hours between vegweb friends!  ;)  Maybe I'll see if Capture wants to come too.  She could meet me and we'd drive together.

Would you all mind if my omni twin comes too?

This ended up in the popular threads directory, so I had to come in here and say something.  Should we maybe try again for spring?  I'd like to get together soonre, but it sounds like pretty many of us would have to travel and would probably appreciate waiting to do all the driving until the snow is done.

unless you guys think we have time to squeeze in a cookie exchange before the holidays?

Le sigh.  I am not in Chicago anymore.

Amitabul is amazing, if any of you are up to the trek out to the burbs for it.  Earwax and Chicago Diner have my endorsements, but CD is kind of ... um, tight... I always feel like an ELEPHANT (forget bull) in a china shop there.

It would be a lot easier for me to drive in the spring since I hate driving on the highways when it's snowing.  But I guess there's always the train with an excuse for an overnight stay.
