Chicagoland vegweb get together anyone?

Anyone in the chicago area want to do a vegweb get together? I'm just fact finding right now. If you are interested let me know what days are best for you and your favorite veg place. I know some people are reliant on public transportation so lets keep that in mind!
We should definitely try it again...The idea of a vegan gyro is going to be haunting me until i try one. Does it come with a sort of creamy dipping sauce (like the ones where i used to get non-veg gyros)? Yum! And i really would love to meet you all- i don"t know any other vegans :(
sorry to hear about that tanevab, i totally understand that you'd have a ton of things running through your head when going through something like that. no worries.
linsdsayloo: yes the gyro comes with a creamy cucumber dipping sauce which really sets it off. without it, it's really good.. but with the sauce, it's amazing. (idunno how it compares to a non-veg gyro since i've never had one, they always sounded disgusting.. same goes for biscuits & gravy but i ate a veg version today at a restaurant and it was really good!)
i was also thinking maybe a vegan cookie exchange in time for the holidays..?
Great idea, let's have a cookie exchange! My mom always brings home two dozen different types of cookies- none of which are vegan, of course... no fun.
yeah we should pick a day and then coordinate who brings what.. so we end up with a good variety. mmmmm! this will be so fun!
If you guys schedule a date again I'll make the drive over. What's 5-6 hours between vegweb friends! ;) Maybe I'll see if Capture wants to come too. She could meet me and we'd drive together.

Amitabul is amazing, if any of you are up to the trek out to the burbs for it. Earwax and Chicago Diner have my endorsements, but CD is kind of ... um, tight... I always feel like an ELEPHANT (forget bull) in a china shop there.
This ended up in the popular threads directory, so I had to come in here and say something. Should we maybe try again for spring? I'd like to get together soonre, but it sounds like pretty many of us would have to travel and would probably appreciate waiting to do all the driving until the snow is done.
It would be a lot easier for me to drive in the spring since I hate driving on the highways when it's snowing. But I guess there's always the train with an excuse for an overnight stay.

ive never gone there, but i've been wanting to. i'm totally into a vegweb meetup but sundays are really my only open day. we should also do a potluck... i nominate cheflindsey to bring dessert.. :D

Some input from the far western burbs... not much out here but I'm always willing to travel for some good vegan food. Potlucks or a meet-up would be great.

where IS humboldt park? im one of those suburbsy people so i dont really know where stuff is that well...
it's the park at the intersection of north ave and california ave... just mapquest that. its the neighborhood just west of wicker park.
