VegWeb Potluck! - Success

Hi folks, after seeing all the New Englanders in owalkerjillo's Where are we all from thread: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=18335.0, I thought - you know what we need? We need a potluck!

So how about it Massachusetts, New Hampshire Rhode Island folks? If you want to pick a date (probably a Saturday late morning). And a place (something public and outdoors - apple picking perhaps), then email eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%76%65%67%77%65%62%2e%70%6f%74%6c%75%63%6b%2e%6e%65%77%65%6e%67%6c%61%6e%64%40%67%6d%61%69%6c%2e%63%6f%6d%22%3e%76%65%67%77%65%62%2e%70%6f%74%6c%75%63%6b%2e%6e%65%77%65%6e%67%6c%61%6e%64%40%67%6d%61%69%6c%2e%63%6f%6d%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b'))

Ta da! We'll take pics of our AWESOME food and report back! :)

Edit: for a report on the fun, see page 3!

3 cheers Cam!!!!  ;D  ;D  ;D
That was an awesome video!! It made me so happy to see you guys having such a good time!
I can't wait for part deux!

And the FOOD.... WOW!!!! So much yummy food!

Tell us though... honestly, was it weird meeting other VWers in real life?
Or was it like you knew each other the whole time?

For me it wasn't weird at all, except for when I spoke with the lady that works there and she gave me the, "I'd like to eat less meat, but I'm worried about protein" bit.  I tried patiently explaining the truth to her, but she ended up walking back inside halfway through my spiel.

Meeting everyone wasn't strange, though BP and I are naturally awkward so all seemed normal to me.  Dinkfeet and the others were very funny and outgoing too, and that made it easier for all of us I'm sure.  You know, I'm still full and didn't have any dinner.  Great food everyone!

Ok, first, I had a fantastic time meeting and eating with all the cool Vegwebbers! As everyone has already reported, great fun and food was had by all (I too was still full when I went to bed at midnight - 12 whole hours later!). It couldn't have been a more beautiful day and the orchard was so peaceful. It was really nice to get out of the city!

Second, I also agree with Dinkfeet that it was weird (not in a bad way!) meeting people you feel like you know a lot about, but still going through the "getting to know you stuff". I didn't find anyone awkward and felt that the conversation was pretty smooth and entertaining!

Third, THANKS LucidAnne for posting the link to the lentil salad! It was amazing (as was all of the food). I'm having the leftovers I snagged for lunch today along with Dinkfeet's delicious chocolate zucchini cake! I'm counting the minutes until my lunch hour....

Fourth, Camillus, the video was so cool! Thanks for taking the footage and adding the soundtrack and captions  ;D

My recently-veg friend had a great time as well and was indeed impressed by the deliciousness and variety of food!

Now I have 1/2+ bushel of crispy apples to enjoy - homemade apple sauce and apple butter here I come!

Thanks again guys!

I'm naturally envious of the apple pickin'.  Nice soundtrack.  Oingo Boingo was one of my favorites during high school.

On Saturday I'm heading out on a road trip and I have some Horses in the music mix for the road.  Our Swords is good for the long, straight stretches.

Green.  So green with envy.  What about the midatlantic states?  PA, NJ, DE?  Anyone here?

Hey!  No knocking the apartment!  It's been working great for me, and I've got a Murphy bed, what more could you ask for?!?

(note: heavy on the toungue-in-cheekyness here!)

UHHHHH as i noted at the potluck, NY is a MIDATLANTIC STATE!!! it is NOT a "NORTHEAST" state. This is why i had "issue" with it being the "northeastern" potluck. Cams and I trucked in from the midatlantic!!

I guess because it was held in Mass, it's considered northeast.  I'm from SE PA outside of philly, so that would have been a NE drive for me! ;)

Okay everyone, let's settle this once and for all: NEW YORK IS IN THE NORTHEAST. According to Wikipedia, Pennsylvania is even tossed in for good measure. The MIDATLANTIC doesn't really exist because it seems that NE occasionally sucks MD and DE (I don't believe that state actually exists, but that's besides the point) into the mix.

::climbs down off soapbox::

That said, I'm game for eating LA's lentils in Western MA, in Albany, in MD, in a train, on a plane. In ahouse, with a mouse. I will eat them, LucidAnne. I sure do love lentils and JAM.  ::puts away Dr. Seuss book::  but I have mad deadlines at work and won't be reliable enough to organize anything, so just tell me when and where and I'll drive. I get lost, but I get there.

p.s. Bookpapa has sweet-talked me into "organizing" an gathering at Grasshopper in Boston. The details won't come around 'til next week. Don't worry folks, I won't leave anyone out - I have litter mentality.

If you do it between December 14 and January 4 I'm down for wherever.  ;)

Between Nov. 15 and January 6 would be preferable.  I am not opposed of dates before then though.  Going anywhere is a welcomed break from thesis!  I'm willing to drive just about anywhere in the CNY, Mass., VT, and CT. area.

Hey all,
My folks (a.k.a "the Bookfamily" - love it, thanks BP!) will be in the Boston area Nov. 14-26. Dinkfeet and I will be working out some dates for the Grasshopper gathering this weekend at the BVS Vegetarian Foodfest (www.bostonveg.org/foodfest - be there or be square), so we'll let everyone know sometime next week. BVS packs the restaurant every month for their seminars, so there's room for all Vegwebbers who can get to Boston!

Awesome.  Now can say I know someone who went to Berklee.  If I had my choice I'd be musical rather than scientific - although I think of drumming as scientific.

There's a difference between New England and the Northeast.  Anything north of the Mason-Dixon line and east of Ohio is the Northeast: http://www.eduplace.com/ss/maps/pdf/ne_us.pdf
