Western CT Potluck - October 4, 2008

Who would be interested in coming to my house for a potluck?  Danbury CT is easily reachable via car off of I84, Metro North Train and even Amtrak.

The date is October 4th and anyone is welcome from 10am till 10pm (or later if prior arrangements have been made, like a pup tent!).

My kitchen is not huge but I have enough entertainment area that even if it rains we can still have quite a crowd.

Menu Ideas:
Cupcakes of course!

Attendees:
KMK
NoIllusions and Boy
baypuppy and posse
Lucid Anne?
RabidChild?
Lumpy?

Your invitation has been sent!

So freakin' sweet.

Oh my....I don't know what to make for food OR what to buy /make for the unbirthday exchange....and I'm getting nervous about meeting everyone....yikes!  :o

Oh the other hand...I'm bursting with excitement....so many vegans in one place!

I had a dream last night that I "converted" my whole math class to veganism with a singel comment and invited them all to the potluck! hehehe.

For lunch snackies I plan on having things to nibble on out and avail.  I want to have hummus, vegan ranch dip, veggies, pita wedges, chips, olive tapenade, bruscetta, olives, marinated mushrooms and maybe even mini spring rolls or something warm.

Potluck dinner can be anything you all want to bring.  Pick your favorite recipe and bring it!  I do only have one oven though, so be aware you may need to share warming space.

Dessert I only planned on having a batch or two of cupcakes.  My favorite lemon and possibly something extravagant if I have time.

Brunch I plan on having Egg McVegans, hashbrowns, Smart Bacon and maybe some breakfast burrito fixings.  If someone wants to bring more brunch goodies, like a fritata fixings or scramble stuff, feel free!  We can cook in the morning.

Yum! Mac UnCheeze and BBQ meatzballs sounds very yummy!  I am hoping to have time to make something awesome but not sure what.  Maybe I will bust out my Bacon Spaghetti for everyone.  haha

Board games being brought are more than welcome.  I don't have many!  Only Monopoly, Scrabble, Stategories and cards.

One side note, Angel is going to be arriving in Hartford at 7:55 PM on Saturday.  LB has graciously said he would go pick her up BUT this cuts her room out in the 'guest room' list.  I will try to clean up my sewing room so an air mattress could be put in it for privacy but all the downstairs rooms have space for those crashing.  Heck I think a tent could be put up in the 'front' room if desired.  hahah!

I need to work on making my exchange gift!  Thanks for the reminder Zealia.

ummm...it looks like i have the night/morning off...whoopee...but I'm TRYINg not to get to exited till i know for 100%...

I have a question and I need every one to weigh in on it!!!!

Does anyone have any food allergies? If so, to what? (shouldn't need to mention ones that are not vegan unless it so bad you can't have things from "shared equipment")

AND....I want to make something that has corn syrup as an ingredient....I want to try to use organinc corn syrup (which does not have high fructose corn syrup) but the stuff is so expensive I might have to mix it with a little bit of the conventional stuff to have enough for the recipe....How much will this bother any of you? Myself, I avoid HFCS, but am willing to have it maybe a few times a year if its in something really good. But if nobody else would be willing to eat it...then I wont bother with that....thoughts?

No allergies here aside from my avoidance of non vegan food and oddly enough sweet potatoes.  Also while I do not go out of my way to eat HFCS, I do not specifically avoid it.  Just most things I eat are whole foods and do not contain it!

Though I remember a recipe involving corn syrup, peanut butter and corn flakes.  Wish I could recall the whole thing, man that made some tasty bar treats!

I have to be honest guys, don't be offended if I don't eat very much.  I've been trying eating only really good foods while I train for my marathon, and a gluttonous weekend will ruin several days of training for me.  But I'm just really excited to see yall!  One more week!

cali, make some of those peanut butter bomb things  :)>>>

my allergies/sensitivities: RAW PINEAPPLE (cooked/canned is fine, fresh and frozen is not). don't ask, i don't understand it either.

hey, i think i might be too....It didn't used to me but now when i eat it, my mouth starts bleeding and i get open soars that don't heal for days...i didn't even think to mention that....Unfortunately, I still LOVE raw pineapple and sometimes get myself into trouble with it....Do you have the same reaction or something else?

A fellow Vegan marathon runner!  Exciting.  If I make it down to CT fior this we should run Sunday morning.  And suggest (force) everyone else to run with us too  ;D
