Another hello
Hi - I just wanted to say how much I love this site and having 'lurked' for a wee while now, I decided to sign up. I feel slightly fraudulent in a way because I'm not completely veggie though my meat intake has absolutely plummeted since January to the extent that I must be at least 90 - 95% veggie (largely vegan except for the odd egg and grating of parmesan cheese - how hard would that be to give up entirely?) I started this primarily for health reasons. Having torn some ligaments in my knee and having strayed into 'obese' territory on the BMI scale, it seemed sensible to lose some weight and I've lost about 38lb in total (so far - still in the overweight category). And it's been so easy and so nice and I've never felt better. Incidentally, I'm not without conscience - I haven't bought factory-farmed meat for a long time (friend has a smallholding and I know is stuff is all hill run and organic, including the chickens). The recipes and the peer support I've seen here are amazing, and I love the fact that people come in from all over the world. So, if it's ok for a not-quite-veggie-but-that's-where-my-heart-probably-is to come on board, please may I?
but of course!
I'm sorry I didn't catch this thread before. Please join us!! This is a very friendly board. You will find lots of encouragement and help here.
Is that your boat?

Hi Catkin! Of course!
No one here claims to be the bestest most perfectest vegger/vegan ever. ;) Which is one of the best parts about it here. :) We all respect each other and their opinions no matter what we eat or don't eat.
Hi catkin, love your boat :)
Welcome, it is always nice to see someone come out of lurkdom to join in the fun :)
Reply to Tanevab - sorry, it might take me a little while to get to grips with the quote thing - yes, that's our boat. We bought her a couple of years ago when she was in a terrible state and my husband has laboured night and day on her since (and I do mean that). However, we were able to take her for her first cruise this summer and had a wonderful time up and down the west coast of Scotland and over to a couple of islands. He is a very clever man and the boat is called Arlil. She is a 28 foot wooden yawl built in 1936, and we will probably be varnishing for ever more!
Welcome, Catkin!!
You're trying to better yourself for yourself, and to me that is wonderful, 95% vegan or whatever!
The people on here are amazing and knowledgeable- I have only been doing this for about two months now, and I love coming on here to get not only great recipes but to chat (vegweb chat is the best!) and post. I'm always learning something new.

Absolutely! I was an omni when I first came here and nobody threw me out! ;D Welcome!
Thank you to everyone for the welcome. It's getting kind of late here in Scotland (well, for me anyway - I have to be up early) so I have to sign off, but I'm really looking forward to being part of this. Speak to you soon!
Cheers to our newest addition :)
Hi Catkin,
38lbs so far? That's great! :D As someone with bad knees, I know how much lightening the load can help. Welcome!

That's me (but with detached tendons on the arches of my feet)! :) It's a long, slow road back to health, dag-nabit. They way I look at it is, by having to be careful about what I eat, I eat way better than I would have otherwise and by default I'll be healthier in the long run.
The important question isn't whether you can join the board (of course you can), but whether that's a stock photo or do you sail?
Welcome! I'm not so strict, either, although I am vegetarian...with one exception. I very rarely eat seafood, but only if my options are really limited.
welcome! ;D ;D ;D ;D
and don't deny that you are doing something positive for yourself and for the earth!
Well hello!
Don't worry about still being a bit omni. Everyone here has a dirty secret or two. Me? Once, twice a year we drive down the road and purchase a dozen cruelty free (free range, non-clipped, organic fed, beak intact chicken type) eggs.
With the food on this site though, you'll be vegan by default.
So.
Diggity.
Dang.
Gooooood.
Just wanted to say hi and welcome!!! feel free to try out the vegfriends chat to the left of the screen too.
Welcome, Catkin! Pleased to meetcha!
Come in, sit down, grab a cup of whatever, put you feet up and enjoy!!
We're all at different places in our lives and in our eating habits, so don't you worry! You are, of course, very welcome!
Congrats on the great losses!
This is a reply to humboldt_honey - yes we do sail, have done for a few years, but this is the first time we've had a boat big enough to cruise in and we love her.
Thanks again to everyone for being so kind and welcoming
