baking Q

hey i have a Q about baking...whenever I bake cookies they never spread in the oven or get yummy and gooey and soft or anything...they're always about the same size when I take them out of the oven as when I put them in. Then after they cool they always get kind of hard and chewy. I just can never seem to be able to make a moist-ish, soft cookie that spreads after baking!!  ???
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or have any advice??
would be much appreciated! thanks! :)

There is a recipe on this site called 'Tollhouse-like cookies' that I used a lot last summer. I baked them weekly because they were so delicious! BUt these cookies do, indeed, spread when baking so maybe try this recipe. And about your cookies being hard, remember to keep them in the over for about 8-10 and take them out as soon as the edges turn a light brown. Cookies will always harden as they cool and the softer they are when you take them out of the oven, the moister the center will be. Also, if you don't mind using a microwave, don't forget that you can microwave cookies to moisten them. Baking cookies takes a few tries to get them right. You have to watch them very carefully as a minute of over baking can impact the texture of your cookies. The more you do it, the better you will become! Keep trying and experimenting with the sugary goodness and good luck! :)
