Cashew substitutes in dairy-free cooking?

Hi there! I'm new to dairy-free cooking (just moved in with my fiancee and his son who are both dairy free). I've been researching recipies to try, and some look really delicious, but they seem to all use cashews to make "creamy" sauces, spreads, cheese analouges, etc. The problem? I am quite allergic to cashews. Has anyone tried to use almonds as a substitute in creating dairy analouges? Thanks in advance!

I think you could definitely try substituting almonds or a combination of almonds and macademias since cashews have more fat. The thing with the cashews is they are soft and grind up smoothly.  I would first try using blanched almonds and soak them before grinding them.

Yeah, I agree with jkl on the almonds! also, if it's a sweeter recipe, coconut milk might work for creaminess? I also sometimes just use a coconut or soy creamer, too!
