Flaxseed oil

What is the recommended dosage of flaxseed oil for a vegetarian? The bottle I have says to take one teaspoon; should I take more than that? I've been vegetarian for a week. I don't consume dairy or eggs but don't consider myself vegan.

The Vegetarian Society of the UK recommends one teaspoon of flax seed oil a day, taken either on its own or mixed into dressings etc. Pregnant or nursing mothers who are uncertain whether their diet is providing enough omega 3 fats may wish to consider supplementing their diet with a direct source of DHA since this appears to play an important part in the development of immature brains. DHA supplements derived from algae and encased in non gelatine capsules are now available. It has also been suggested that DHA supplements may be of help to children with certain behavioral or learning difficulties. Source: http://www.vegsoc.org/info/omega3.html

The exact amount may depend upon your body weight. A medical professional could give you the appropriate amount.

We use this salad dressing recipe:

1/4 cup red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup flax seed oil
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup water
1 package dry Italian Salad Dressing Mix (Good Seasons)
2-4 teaspoons liquid soy lecithin

Combine all ingredients into an empty salad dressing bottle and shake well.
