How to Veganize this recipe?

Here's an old recipe that's really popular with my family during the holidays. Veganizing this would make my Christmas. If anyone has seen VCIYCJ, they're similar to the Cowboy/Cowgirl cookies, so I'm wondering if I can simply make them that way. I haven't done much vegan baking, so I'm clueless.

Mrs. Field's $250 Chocolate Chip Cookies:
Mix 2c butter, 2c white sugar, 2c brown sugar. Add 4 eggs, 2 tsp vanilla. In a separate bowl mix 4c flour, 2 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp salt, 5c oatmeal powder (ground oatmeal). Add together dry and wet ingredients. Then add 1 pkg chocolate chips, 1 8oz Hershey bar broken into pieces, 3c nuts.

I would think that recipe would work well with just the simple butter and egg substitutions. EB (or whichever) spread for butter, and maybe flax eggs for the flax. Flax would work well with the oats. Vegan chocolate chips and bar! Maybe try a half batch?

Hmm, sounds good. Yeah, the proportions in this recipe make 2 or 3 dozen cookies, but it's never enough.

Yeah, I would mix the flax eggs separately (1/4 cup flax + 3/4 cup hot water for 4 eggs). Whisk that really well, then add where it says to add the eggs.

I don't remember how the cowboy cookie recipe is..I'll have to look.

I've had good experience with vegan baking.  Although I have not made cookies, I have made vegan breads, including banana nut bread, strawberry bread, etc. simply by substituting the butter for margarine (have always done that anyway, even before I was vegan) and use flax or Ener-G in place of the eggs.  Flax sometimes imparts a slight flavor - especially in a recipe with so many eggs - so maybe you can make small batches both ways and see which you like better.  Don't forget that sugar is usually not vegan, so be sure to buy vegan sugar.
