You are here

if a friend offered to make you any recipe(s) on this site for dinner

what would you ask for?
I am trying to get inspired to cook out of my comfort zone. I want to know what dishes turn you on.  ^-^ It doesnt have to be something you have tried before, just something you are interested in.
thanks!

I know it doesn't look that hard but....hangs head in shame, intimidated by phyllo pastry I have never gotten around to making it.

I dont know exactly what your comfort zone is animal_g! But I will tell you some of my faves and raves!

Try the "Tuna" Mushroom Noodle Casserole.  Try Channa Masala, any recipe as I dont think that one can ever go wrong imo!  Make sushi!  Try an interesting pasta dish if you rarely make pasta or try an easy rice dish if you rarely make rice.

Branch out into casseroles like lasagna or enchiladas.  Invite a loved one over and wow them with Portobello Wellingtons.  Oh, you could also try a quiche!

I was going to vote for the portabello wellington too, probably b/c there's a picture up on the home page of it and it looks good. Also my parents cook beef wellington as a "special occasion" thing quite a bit, so I'd love them to make me this (and maybe other guests?) one time!

ha! I pretty much live off of peanut soup and brown rice.
or tvp chili.

thanks for the suggestions Cali! I do love to cook and have made the chana masala and sushi before. Quiche sounds like a challenge!
What would you most want someone to cook for you, if you werent cooking it?
Just trying to get an idea of others tastes, what sounds most appealing to them.

oh yes I have eyed that recipe but the phyllo dough always scares me off. your not alone. Still I am up for a challenge.

ooh wellington just sounds fancy. I really have no idea what that is. must investigate. Ask your parents to make it for you for a special Caroleena2 occasion!

Oh, this is easy for me.  I have tons of things in my recipe box that I've been too lazy (or scared) to try.  For example:

BTW, if you're interested in trying a quiche, do this one: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=10776.0
I think it's really easy and great.

So many great recipes here how do you decide  :)>>>
Basically you could just randomly make me about anything vegan and I would try it.

Make the quiche!  Veggydog and I both linked it so that is already two votes. haha

Personally I adapt that recipe to make a mushroom kale quiche in a rice crust as was suggested by a commenter.  That is perfect for my tastes.  Though honestly, I havent made it in months! Booooo

If someone was cooking for me? Like all out fancy dinner party in my honor?  I would be thrilled with anything from mashed garbanzo taco's (with all the trimmings of course!) to a lush 5 course meal.  The later would start with an array of appetizers like stuffed mushrooms, mini tofu scallops, veggies and dips as well as a lovely bottle of wine.  Then a soup course of cauliflower and leek bisque with a perfectly roasted hunk of rosemary sourdough bread slathered with earth balance.  Then a crisp salad of spinach with a variety of veggies and most importantly olives!  For the main course a lush roast of seitan cooked with fingerling potatoes, crimini mushrooms, shitake mushrooms and carrots.  Ther would also be a bunch of roasted asparagus and Brussel sprouts!  Dessert would be either a creamy lemon pie or a many layered chocolate cake with layers of rich fruit spread and covered in ganache after receiving a layer of cream cheese butter cream.

But if you just wanna make my kind of dinner one night after work? Tortilla soup works too!

that's poetry Cali! Beautiful!

So I checked out the quiche and it looks like a go. The rice crust has piqued my interest ^-^
and I want to try it. I have broccoli and spinach coming in my box tomorrow so I have no excuse!
thanks!! :)>>>

Thank you!  I can freely admit that I love food.  ;)

Enjoy the quiche!  I always enjoyed them.  So did LB come to think of it.  I need to put it back on the menu sometime soon.

For MDVegan:

If I had to make a recipe for someone restricted to thick liquids I would make:
Creamy potato and leek soup
Roasted Garlic and Cauliflower soup
Silky White Bean and Sage soup
Cream of Asparagus soup
Noochy Broccoli soup

All of these would be run through the Vita-Mix just for you!
To make any of these simply saute onion, leeks, shallots and celery until very soft and almost brown.  Add in the next component, either cauliflower or broccoli or potatoes.  Simmer in veggie broth till desired doneness.  Thicken with either a roux, unsweetened soy milk, pureed canellini beans or a cheezy nooch sauce.  Then blend till it is perfect for slurping through a straw!

My new immersion blender made the white beans a lovely thick sauce that was very light and would be hugely flavorful as a soup base!  mmm with some fresh sage leaves... perfection!

Hope this helps MDV!  *hugs*  If you lived closer I would be making these for you too!
