Mulled Ale?

Does anyone have a tried and true recipe for mulled or spiced ale that they know is good and the proportions are right? I can't seem to find a recipe that doesnt' call for some commercially-prepared spice mix that we don't have here, or how to make it "from the hops up."
I have access to dark German ale and would like to make it with sugar and spices, but I know if you get the proportions wrong it can taste bitter and strange.
Anybody got a recipe they actually use?

Look into it please, all the recipes I can find call for eggs and that sounds just gross even if you're NOT vegan. I happen to know you can "mull" wine with spices, but I am not terribly conversant with dark ales, I don't know if the same spices for red wine would work for ale.

To be frank, knowing the drinking habits current on VW I am surprised that so few people have responded to this. I would have thought y'all were conversant with both mulled wine and mulled ale, like centuries ago.

I don't see anything there about boiling it, it says to heat below boiling. But actually that's a recipe for what was called "lamb's wool"--goes back to the 16th century. Pepys used to drink it.
This looks good. I bet you could sub agave or brown sugar for the honey. It might not have much fizz but it doesn't get hot enough to boil off the booze.

Even if stuff's boiled/baked a while, not all the booze leaves; much less than most think.
