substitution for sweetened condensed milk?

Hi all,
I have a recipe that calls for sweetened condensed milk.  I don't do dairy and have seen several substitutions for items such as cheese, sour cream, etc, but never this.  Any ideas?

Google is your friend.  ;)

If you try one of these, please let me know how it turned out. I have an old candy recipe that I loved to have during the holidays -- so rich, so decadent. I haven't made it in years cuz it calls for SCM.

Oh wow, you are awesome!  I use google all the time, but never thought to look this up there.  Thanks so much!  I'll try it this week and let you know!

I was about to do a search for this for myself, and now I don't have to! I have a recipe for "Lemon Stuff" a sort of pie, thing, and it calls for sweetened condensed milk.

I'll give it a whirl, and post the whole recipe when I get around to making it. Yum!

Ok Lezly,
I tried the recipe for the first link you gave.  I noticed this recipe called for 1/3 c water whereas the others called for a whole cup.  I wonder if this was an error because 1/3 c was not enough at all!  I kept adding water to get it from a very dry consistency to more of the thick liquid it should be.  It probably ended up being close to a cup of water.  Other than that, it turned out very well!  I'm so glad for this substitute!

I just made some yummy fudge - http://www.vegan-food.net/recipe/1451/Chocolatey-Soy-Fudge/ that used this method to make the condensed milk - http://www.vegan-food.net/recipe/924/Sweetened-Condensed-Soy-or-Rice-Milk-Slow-Method/

It turned out wonderfully, but took a bit long for it to condense.
