There's always stevia... which is a sweet tasting herb. Many diabetics use it. You can buy it as an extract (liquid or powder) or as a leaf. I sometimes use the leaf. A little goes a long way. I first brew a strong tea, then I replace the liquid portion of my recipe with the stevia tea.

humm, i was always under the impression that sugar = sugar. you can have less refined sugars, but in the end it's sugar.
???
have you thought about using sucunat? it's cheaper than ms here and has a lot of the goodness still in it.
Sugar is indeed sugar. You can eat fructose, syrup, honey (non-vegans) and in the end you may as well used sugar because it's all concentrated sweets.
Of course the body wants to convert all food to sugar (glucose), it's just healthy to do it a little slower so as not to cause spikes in the blood glucose levels.
It's a good idea to try to cut down on these kinds of concentrated sweets.
sugar is tricky... I try to cut ALL artificial sweeteners; and I never use white sugar. Instead of honey, I like to use agave nectar, it is similar
