What's your favourite grain?

I mean, if you could only eat one grain for the foreseeable future, what would it be?

For me--rice. No question. My absolute favourite food.I can do without bread and potatoes as long as there's rice in reach.

Definitely rice.....brown, basmati, jasmine..... :)

Millet. I make rotlo (aka roti) out of it. And no, I don't have a gluten intolerance, I just really, really like it. I think it's because it looks like mud. Yes, I'm a kid that way  :)

Probably a toss up between whole wheat and brown rice.    Whole wheat seems to be a stable food in things like bread, tortillas, cereal, bulgar (is that in a separate category?) and pasta.  I love the versatility of brown rice.

I do try to eat other grains like barley, rye, quinoa and oat meal, but the two above are staples.

Although I love rice, buckwheat, quinoa, and whole wheat grains (bulgur, spelt, whole wheat), I have to say oats is still my favorite.  I use it way more than the others.

Thanks for the new recipe! I'll try it out when I'm feeling experimental. Although 1 part millet to 3 parts other grain, the millet won't shine through  :'(

Try it the way it's written first, and then maybe you can modify it to suit your needs, or come up with a new recipe to share!!

I'm a fan of bulgur, but I would not be opposed to eating only basmati rice for the rest of my life if I had to choose.

I adore a ton of grains but brown rice is the one I'd be lost without it. For some reason if I eat brown rice daily I stay pretty balanced and don't have any insane or really over-whelming food cravings.

really, all you peeps truly adore healthy rice?!

taste wise it's gotta be white, no doubt about it... sticky white rice!

health wise, quinoa is the bomb and actually tastes good too... i think brown rice tastes like ass rotten rose petals, but if i was eating for health, not for taste, i would choose it over white :P

I like brown rice with nuts in a sort of casserole loaf thing. Like with mushrooms, pecans, red bell pepper and onion.

I'm way ahead of you, my dear child! http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30913.msg365349#msg365349
Originally I would use egg for a binder, nowadays, I suppose you could add oats or Ener-G or something if you wanted to go the loaf route. Or just eat it as is.

Am I the only one who doesn't really even like rice? Quinoa and bulgur are my favourite savoury grains but I couldn't live without my morning steel-cut oats!

I've been trying to quit most grains, fruits, potatoes, and other high-carb foods in order to maximize protein percentages, and the highest-protein grain-based products would be extracts like wheat gluten and wheat germ (about 25% calories from protein).  I've never come around to trying quinoa, which is amino-acid-balanced with 12-18% protein - higher than all other grains, but still too low.

In terms of taste, my favorite grain would have to be buckwheat.  Back in the old country we ate it with milk, for which soymilk works even better, but I prefer it as a much healthier alternative to fried rice - with lots of mushrooms, firm tofu or tempeh, onions, chopped olives, garlic, tomatoes, etc.
