Chicago vw-ers or frequent visitors....

I have never really traveled (far) alone...I have the opportunity to do something that I really want to do but would have to travel to Chicago next fall and then take some sort of shuttle bus/van to Techny Illinois...for those of you from Chicago or travel (have travelled) there often...Is it an easy airport to navigate? What should a newbie be aware of? advise, tips?

I don't know where exactly in Techny (yet) but google maps says from chicago to techny is about a 20 minute drive.

What is Technny Illinois. Once I know I can help you all you want.

Public transport is great in the city so you'll have no worries, might get a bit iffy at night on your own but on the whole nothing to be too worried about. Do you live in a big city?

actually I will go right from the airport to Techny (a smaller town I presume) and spend three days there...but I am afraid that the Chicago airport (ohare) will be intimidating...I will spend virtually no time in chicago expect for the airport and traveling from the airport to the retreat house on the shuttle bus.

thank you for your response.

If there is a shuttle bus going to be waiting to take you to your destination you should be fine. ORD is well sign-posted. You will probably be picked up opposite the Hilton Hotel.

thank you gesc  :)  I think I just need to stop being a wienie and just go for it.

You said wienie (:

I think the airport is fine, and I'm a HUGE mega wiener when it comes to traveling alone. It's a pretty big airport so lines can be long, but like GESC said, the signs are pretty helpful.

I've never had a problem at O'Hare, you'll be fine! :)
It is a bit intimidating to travel alone, I do travel alone quite a bit, but it is still scary from time to time.
I hope that you get to do what you really want to do and that it is a great time!
