Dumb Question

Dumb question:  Since becoming vegan tends to cause weight loss, why doesn't the pro-vegan portion of our population concentrate their efforts on the people like those in the following documentary?  It is a potential multi-billion dollar market, for you business  types out there, if you can do such in a nutritionally sound and complete manner (please see my posts regarding lysine and other nutrients missing from most vegan diets).

I know I lost 1/3 of my body weight within three months each time I went vegan (probably because vegan diets tend to be so low in fat).  If this was to be applied to people like those in the documentary, we might save American from collapsing under its own weight, so to speak.

"We used to play for silver, now we play for life"
-- Jack Straw (as in Straw Man Specifications), Grateful Dead

Ad hominem attacks?  I already told you why, because I found it difficult to get on a vegan diet.  All the other ones were fairly easy to get.  It is, however, considerably less difficult than making an evil flying monkey.

As for the black bean lysine amount, please look it up yourself.

Also, do you prefer nature over nurture?

Nature.  I tend to be more science minded but don't feel the need to prefer one over the other.

That was supposed to be a joke but it did come out rather bitchy.  Sorry about that.

I understand that lysine is the one amino acid that vegans might come up short on, especially those that don't eat a lot and eat poorly.   I'd already looked it up myself prior to asking using another data base but wanted to see what your source said.  It had 1/3rd of the amount a person my age and weight should get and I ate a whole can, almost three servings I think and therefore I easily got most of my requirements, but I wanted to know what your source said, so it was a serious question.

Really, you can say things like "you want me to wipe your ass" to my girl Amy, but can't take what you dish out?

Logic fail.

I understand that patients like to be "nutured", so is that the type of nurturing you're talking about?  Give me a nurse aware of pathophysiolodgy and can spot subtle changes in condition any day over someone that prefers to nuture.  Over the years I've won two nurse excellence awards, and one "Nurse of the Year" award, and you'd really be safe with me.  Plus, while I understand the nature of illness and wellness, I'm very good at nuture when it come to nursing.

Oh Tweety, if you're going to be posting your credentials, you have to add on an unnecessary GPA. Did you not get the memo?

Missed the Memo.....let's just say BSN with Summa Cum Laude.....I'm also board certified with the American Nurses Credentialing Center in Medical Surgical Nursing......I'm currently precepting/mentoring a new grad RN and will be taking on a senior nursing student for 10 shifts.  I'm pretty awesome actually.

Seriously, I take my career and my responsibilities to my patients extremely seriously.

I think I've said enough, but let me just leave you with this from the world renown and respected Mayo Clinic:  "The key to a healthy vegetarian diet — like any diet — is to enjoy a variety of foods. No single food can provide all the nutrients your body needs. The more restrictive a diet is, the more challenging it is to get all the nutrients you need. If anyone has any questions or wants my autograph, you know where I am.

Shhh. They're not supposed to be REAL CREDENTIALS. For instance, I went to Ultimate Awesome University of Awesome, and graduated with a 5.4 GPA (no worries, it was out of 5.4). I also have a degree in Epic Brilliance of the Most Highly Regarded Kind.

but in all seriousness, I'm sure that you're a great nurse. And Mr.nsfdri here is probably one of those patients who insists on being seen by the doctor not just some nurse. ;D

Does that basically translate to, "Eat what ever the hell you want to.  We don't really care.  You're probably going to die of cancer soon anyway."?  I'm not real familiar with medical speech.  I try to stay away from them as much as possible to stop our health insurance premiums from rising at a rate of 15% per year.  If that rate continues, we will end up spending the entire nation's GDP on healthcare in less than 20 years.

You've missed the point entirely and I don't know if you're really that stupid or just being belligerent.

Oh BTW, I posted a new topic under Food Fight called "Near Perfect Vegan Diets".  If anyone does come up with any perfect / near perfect vegan diets using quinn, please post them there.  I went ahead and posted the first one.  I think vegweb.com deserves to know about any near perfect vegan diets we come up with for allowing us to post our rants here.  Plus, and more importantly, it might be helpful to others when coming up with their own perfect / near perfect vegan diets.  Please include the sex, height, weight, activity level, and pregnancy/lactating status (if any) of the individual the diet is intended for.

Fair enough.  I'll respect that thread and leave you alone there.

I was recommending the grain, I've never heard of or seen the leaf.  Vegans who eat a variety of foods that include green leafy vegetables get plenty of Vitamin K and it's nothing to fear.  Green leafy vegetables offer an amazing array of benefits (beside Vitamin K) that help humans from head to toe and encouraging people to limit them is foolish.

But what do I know, I'm just an evil health care professional that wants people to sick so I'll have a job.

And what (or should I possibly say who) is done with the leaves of the amaranth plant?

Why quote me and ask me?  Let me repeat....I have never heard of amaranth leaves.  But I have a few ideas what you can do with them.
