ok-- but sure you understand why we thought it! haha

Whole lotta restaurants besides PJ's & Taco Hell have stuff for us-- most any Asian or Mexican place generates cooking-free veg happiness... 'Amy's' line of soups has some fab vegan ready-to-eat canned soups... 'Simply Asian' has some great noodle bowls... the Whole Foods near me has some 'mic in bag' Indian/ Asian stuff on the 'ethnic food' aisle that's easy/ quick/ yum, that I use when I'm too tired to cook or when I'm traveling & don't have a proper kitchen ('Malaysian Lodeh', mmmmmm)... freeze serving-size portions when you DO cook, for later... fresh greens+ chickpeas/ red kidney beans or almonds/ cashews are superquick with your favorite dressing... throw shit in the crock the night before/ plug in right before leaving for work/ come home to Cajun Red Beans & Rice (or whatever) a'waitn on ye... keep nuts & dried fruits about to snack upon while sorting out dinner... there are fast-food strategies even for veg-heads! Hold on, man! resist the Dark Side! Use... the Fork Force!

Check out Tasty Bites at Whole Foods, I've tried a few of their ready-made meals and they are awesome! Make stuff that is so ridiculously easy to put together for awhile so you can still eat but be lazy. Pick up some frozen fries, gardein, Amy's, etc.

I hear ya. Over the past couple of months, I've been in a rut, a bit depressed and simply do not want to cook. I hate cooking for omni kids & hubby, and then a separate meal for myself. Whole Foods has been my savior lately, although what I'm doing is not cheap. I buy pre-chopped fruit, pre-made salsas and guacamole, pre-packaged, toasted edamame, raw vegan granola bars, raw vegan cereals with things like millet, pumpkins seeds, dates (yummy), and I have been hitting the deli section hard for items like mediterranean quinoa, sweet chili soy nuggets :)>>>, soy nuggets with mushrooms, autumn couscous, grilled asparagus with cranberries, tofu with spicy peanut sauce, and green beans almondine. I'm a fan of the frozen veggies (broccoli, peas, carrots, okra) that I can nuke in the package in 5 minutes and I'm also enjoying a green energy drink from Bolthouse farms that most other people look at in disgust. I know that this qualifies me as a lazy vegan...I certainly am but it keeps me eating vegan and healthy until I kick back into my cooking and baking phase again. Until then, I'll be spending a lot more on food...but it's worth it for this lazy vegan. ;)b

Am I such a weirdo that I actually love to cook? I whip up an elaborate dinner every night. Do you think the wife appreciates it? She does nothing to show it.

How do you get on the "Wife Swap" show?

I wish I could cook for some of you whiners just to get a nod.

I like to cook well enough, as does the husband, but it would be nice to have the option of eating out every few months, or to be able to order take-out when time is short /I'm under the weather....not sure how that makes me a whiner.  ???

savvyidler: you live in a pretty cool place... maybe you could get some VW cooks to trade dinner delivery service for a nice celestun vaca! hehe... whattaya feel like eatin'? we'll be right over!  ;)

We actually have been doing something kind of like that...
we recently hosted our first volunteers through helpX; they were here for a little over a month and it worked out great.  I hadn't thought to recruit based on cooking ability though...hm.  It was a lovely surprise to open the fridge and find food that someone else had already prepared!  They made a lot of yummy salads and I think they tasted even better to me for the novelty of not having made them.
We're expecting the next people in March and we're hosting throughout this year.  Just let me know when to expect you HCM and I'll break out the good hammocks!

I love to cook but I can totally understand that sentiment, especially if you are cooking for more than one and have to please more than yourself.

I am totally enjoying cooking now BUT, I can't believe how many dishes I have to do just cooking for me and then making healthy food for my dogs.  Lots of dishes!

What I would say is give yourself a break!  If you can afford go out to eat and don't feel guilty.  Also, really look into easy, easy but delicious meals that don't take much effort but do the job.  Tahini sauce over vegetables/tofu/grains comes to mind....ditto "coconut rice and beans and vegetables" come to mind.

My bf cooks and to him it's very natural because he has had a lot of practice. I think the more you practice the more it becomes more natural and the easier it becomes.

But give yourself a break! That is what restaurants are for, don't you know?
