The title is: "New Bestiality Restaurant lets you Pork your Pork", but it is not in huge print and really does not catch the eye (relative to a much darker larger unrelated title below). You can move quickly past the title, anyways, because the actual article starts a ways down.
There is only a picture of a roasted pig, which may be unsavory to you, but isn't "innappropriate for work".
Yeah... I'll take it as a no, Camillus - after I read it on a work computer. And that was after I read the mj thread at work and decided I really should limit my vegweb time to my personal computer.
I don't know if the article is true of not. The author wrote it with a great deal room to backtrack.
Sorry, I'll edit the subject. But yeah, I would assume from the link title it would be pretty clear that it's nsfw, depending on where you work. The pictures are not graphic (there is certainly no nudity, or depictions of bestiality), but the article itself is extremely disturbing, especially the style in which it's written, ("ha ha, this is funny," instead of "wow, this is really messed up,"). As SubVersa said, the only thing that may raise eyebrows is the subject line, but that's assuming someone is looking over your shoulder for the brief few seconds it's on screen.

I really hope you are right, but it wouldn't be the only place where bestiality is an option.
I know little about Tokyo, and nothing of their laws against bestiality, and how well enforced they are,... but I agree it is pretty unlikely that such a restaraunt would exist without a LOT of noise being made about it.
I am trying to find other sources that validate or discredit this article, but have had no luck.
Still, the seed of doubt (and lack of other references to this "dining experience") makes me feel a little better.
The disclaimer at the bottom makes me think that someone is just being "funny." It's safer to make claims like this when you're pretty sure 90% of your audience has never been to Tokyo and probably won't go.
However, yes...this is a definition of the word "funny" of which I was unaware...unless you count it as used in the phrase "I feel funny" just before you puke.... :(
What scares me about that this, is that even if this particular article ISN'T true, there are plenty of horrific instances of animal cruelty in, if not Japan, (the first association with "weird" we tend to make), then definitely China. The point is well taken that money will get you pretty much anything, if there's enough of it.
I'd often try to assume that things were exaggerated or fabricated to make another culture look bad, or for whatever other reason. And while this does happen, I'm sure, it is true that there is a very big difference culturally in how animals are viewed and treated. We certainly have problems with it in North America, but there tend to be a lot more options available to vegetarians and vegans then there are in China, or so I have been told by people who live there.
This is so extreme and repellant, but I've also heard of shrimp being dunked in alcohol and eaten alive. Not as extreme or horrific to us as rape and then slaughter, but pretty damn cruel. I find the idea of this wholly repugnant, but it's even more repellant that someone would fabricate it, especially making people of an extremely different (and often unreachable) culture the culprits.

Vegans and vegetarians have more options here than in China, I agree, but that's little comfort to the animals in american factory farms. What makes you call out China as especially bad? I know of nothing that makes them worse than America or Canada.

I don't know from personal experience, but people I know who are living in Hong Kong (specifically), have told me they have a lot of trouble finding any vegetarian options, and it's very difficult culturally to be one. The impression that I got in addition to what they told me specifically, was there's a lot less consideration given to the welfare of the animal, even less so than here in America, but really, cruelty is cruelty, so that's a highly debatable point.
Still, a lot of stuff gets shrugged off as just part of the culture. Here, we have angsty vegs going around and pointing out the thoughtlessness of human behavior. But a lot of people just don't even think about it, here and there.

Yuck. Even so, it's gross that someone thought it up. On the bright side (there's a bright side?), perhaps this will repulse enough people to raise awareness of animal suffering.
I didn't read the article (too sensitive to that sort of thing), but I'd bet that its fake, or someone's idea of a funny joke.
Unfortunately, bestiality is not illegal in the Netherlands. They're working on it, but facing opposition?!?! WTF.
