Knitters of VegWeb, your attention please!

I know some of you are knitters so this might be of interest to you. My grandmother has a whole box full of knitting needles in all shapes and sizes, although only a few are in metric. She used to be an avid knitter but over the past few years arthritis in her fingers has made it impossible for her to continue. We had a chat today and she mentioned she misses knitting terribly and seeing the needles in the house upsets her - perhaps she should take them to a charity shop?

I suggested I ask around on this forum first to see if any of you lovely people could give some needles a deserving home and she thinks that's a good idea. I know she has one or two packs of double-ended needles and I could look at sizes and numbers when I'm next at her house - or just send some random pairs for fun. If you're interested in acquiring some new-old needles, let me know!  :)

Ooh, I'd love some!  I don't need any specific sizes.

Okay! Do you have any preferences or ideas about quantity?

Hmm, how many do you have?  I'll take any amount!  I'm always starting new projects and having to fish needles out of my old unfinished projects.  I mean, if you're looking to get rid of all of them, I'd be happy to just split them with whichever other vegwebbers don't want them, or take whatever is left over.

So I guess, as many as you can spare?  I'd especially be interested in the double points.

Mirrya, Nannie tells me that sevens, eights and nine will be good for beginners - she has all of those by the bucketload.
Kate, I'll pull out a whole range of sizes for you plus a packet of the double-ended ones. Her ones are apparently for socks - tens to fourteens.

I hope these sizes mean something to you guys! You can email me at janexdoe at hotmail dot co dot uk to talk addresses and more details :)

I'm not much of a knitter but I'm an avid crocheter!  Any hooks? (Did your grandma try glucosime? I know I didn't spell that right, but I give it to my dog whose 64 in dog years and the difference in her arthritis is remarkable.)

Oh I would love some knitting needles! I have like 3 pairs, so anything besides 8 mm and 3.5 mm would be grand!!

I love needles! I'm rather international though so I understand if it's too far to post...would happily split with others/take any unwanted ones :) I'm metric through and through so it all works for me.

Having said that though, I'm so sorry to hear that your grandmother's arthritis has progressed so far, and that seeing her needles upsets her :( Maybe there is something she can find to fill the gap that doesn't hurt her hands/require such fine movements? It must be so hard to lose a big part of what you love to do.

Poopinshmicken: there are indeed a pile of crochet hooks too! Drop me an email with details of anything you'd like.

Theo: England is a such a stupidly located island that everything is international for us - don't worry about it! In the absence of knitting, she reads, has a busier social life than me, plays lawn bowls, gardens and is learning to use the Internet, haha. She hasn't been able to knit in a while and she hadn't had the needles out since she packed them away a couple of years ago.

We sorted out lots of pairs - about half of them in fact - which are now with me in my flat. I'll pack them up as soon as I get all the addresses I need.

I'm a lot better at crocheting than knitting...I've made several blankets for my sister.   :)

Okay, ladies:

Sarah, Amara and Katie, your parcels are wrapped and ready to be posted tomorrow.
Mirrya, Theo and poopinshmicken, I'll need your addresses.

MKM, I will pick up some beginner's sized needles and a couple of crochet hooks when I'm next at my grandmother's house at the start of August.

I know a few of you have offered to pay postage; that's really not necessary and she'd tell me off for accepting it! But if you'd like to send her a card or photos of things you have knitted, she'd love that so very much :)

sorry to spam this msg board but I was wondering if she has any spare skeins that she would be giving away too?  I mean I wouldn't trouble yourself but I figure it'd be better than throwing them away.

Email is janexdoe at hotmail dot co dot uk.

I don't think she has any yarn, for some reason she off-loaded that some time ago :)

No, I don't have any pictures.  They're in Michigan with my sister...if she brings them down when she moves I'll take one.  All the blankets I made her have smaller matching ones for her cat since the cat didn't want to share.
