NVR: For the knitters out there...

So, since becoming vegan, I've become felting-deprived. I used to make bags, hats, bowls, etc. out of felted wool yarn; however, I have yet to find vegan alternatives suitable for felting--are there any, or do I need to find a new knitting outlet?

I love it, HH!! Mabye instead of learning DPNs, I could work on cabling and such. Its all so pretty.

I cannot for the life of me figure out double pointed needles, i think i need some one to actually show me instead of a video. I'll try again later when i have more time to concentrate on it.

Is it setting it up that is giving you trouble?

I was almost done with the back of the baby sweater.  It was supposed to be a cable stitch, but I changed it to a basket weave, so that with the same number of stitches across it puckered big time between the seed stitch.  So, after a big sigh, I ripped it out and am on row five again, but with fewer stitches across.  At least a 10x10 basket weave goes fast.

Knitting needles and crochet hooks are 30% off at JoAnn from 3/8 to 3/28.  I'm going to pick up some circulars.

KMK,
Yeahhhh, it is. like i get it, i've seen vids. But i cant get actually doing it.

I'm just making a hat on regular needles again for now. Then i'll give it another shot (though i havent had much time at all to work on anything)

OK.  So you cast on all the stitches onto one needle.  Then you take another needle and literally just slip the stitches onto the new needle, however many you need.  Like, perhaps you cast on 36--then you slip 12 onto a new needle.  Then just let that needle be, and slip the next 12 onto yet another needle.  Three needles with 12 stitches each.  The loop will not be closed into a circle unto you knit, like normal, into the first stitch of the first needle using the yarn from the end of the third needle.

No idea if that helps.  Keep trying!

Sarah, you still want a hat, right?  I haven't forgotten!  I am going yarn shopping today.  It is the first chance I've had in ages.  You wanted purple or green, right?  Bright colors?  I'm excited.

Yes! haha. Pretty much any color but pink, because i have my pink one already, but brights are my favee.  :)>>>

I bought dpns in all sizes up to 9 yesterday.  When I'm done with this baby sweater I'm onto a practice hat myself.

VS, I loove that sweater! Especially  in a bold color like that! What color(s) did you knit yours with?

SoG,

Its almost done! I feel so proud because usually I quit projects 3/4 of the way thru and start something else....all I have to do is finish the cowl and the bottom ribbing.

I made it in a bright-ish pink. I usually don't wear bright colors, but for this I thought all the other colors were too boring.

I will post pics.

I posted pics.

The big hole is where my head goes... :)

HH,

That baby sweater looks fabulous! You are a quick learner. Honestly, I only just started doing cables and I have been knitting for a while...

I like that sweater, vs.  A lot.  I bought a book of just cable patterns and I'm excited by the bobbles.  I haven't made one yet, though.

I was decidedly not into knitting clothes for me, but I saw a cape-let the other day that was cool and I love the individual expression of your sweater.  I may change my mind.

I bought your yarn today, Sarah!  It's pretty pretty purple, made out of some kind of recycled cotton business.  I was like, this is perfect!

Yayy. i'm excited!
and VS - i LOVE the color and design of that  :)>>>

Has anyone here used the round knitting circles, not like circular needles, but its like a circle with pegs in it kind of? I saw them today and wondered if they're worth getting or not

I have.  They are super easy but you pretty much can only make a tube, basically.  And make that into something - a hat or whatever.  I don't know how versatile they are.

Thats what i figured. I guess it'd be something to try only if i see them on sale and have some insane ideas.

Right.  They're kind of a novelty.

Thanks, underSarah! HH, yes, the bobbles are exciting! I was so happy when I first made one...its the kind of sweater that looks complicated but really isn't. Trust me, if it were too difficult I would have given up by now...

I say go for the capelet. It's versatile. Speaking of capelets (how the hell do you spell that word, it keeps underlining in red. whatever.) I saw this awesome one on etsy the other day.

The pattern is for sale, not the actual cape. I want it!

Sarah,

Here is the yarn: http://www.missionfalls.com/1824cotton.php

I made a mistake earlier; it's not the uber recycled kind.  But it IS fabulous.  The color is 407 (Aubergine!) but the picture DOES NOT do it justice.  It is a pretty bright purple.  Not too dark at all.  In fact it looks more like the "lilac" they have listed.  We'll see how it knits up!

eta:  OH NO!  I bought too little yardage, and as I recall they might not have more skeins!  I'll go back tomorrow, but just in case I need to choose something different, would you be opposed to any of the following:

- lime green
- kelly green
- red
- magenta-ish (I know you already have pink)
- any other color that you hate?

I want it to turn out to be what you want!

Lime green sounds amazing. I'm not a big fan of red though, Oooh, blue greens! pretty much any other color is amazing too though  :)>>> I'm pretty much down for anything

ok, I did envision you in a nice lime green!  There were lots of good greens.  I shall look.

eta:  I bought a faaaabulous turquoise!
