Roll Call!

Edit.  The following intro is a bit old.  I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years.  Just couldn't be worked out.  I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now.  I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!!  Woot!

Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous!  I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

I deleted my Myspace page.  I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name.  Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.

Edit #3 - Finally went vegan.  The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners.  I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets.  I'm loving it!  Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore.  LOL  I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate.  I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.

Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor.  I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job.  w00t

It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself.  I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years????  But I don't know a lot of you.

I am a nurse.  I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".)  I am gay.  I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.

I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.

I have a very boring blog here:  http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13

You're turn.  Tell me your business!

in august i will officially be a one year old vegan

Me too!  Last August was my 30th birthday, and for some reason, I decided it would be a good time to go vegan...

I am on my way to complete my master’s degree in English literature, cultural anthropology and Arabic studies.

Welcome to vegweb, Suzanne! That's a great/wonderful/cool combination of subjects you are studying! I'd be interested in knowing if and how you intertwine these interdisciplinary subjects--? Or do you study them as disparate/separate subjects?

Cooking has never been so much fun without any yucky meat around. Cooking and baking are a favorite pastime of mine. Though I am by no means proficient yet, I take great joy in trying out knew recipes and dabbling in the various cuisines from all over the world.

I never liked cooking during the seven or eight years that I ate meat as an adult. It always grossed me out.  In fact I never really liked to cook with dairy either. I only really started to learn how to cook well and enjoy it when I first started my transition into being vegan.

I'm looking forward to hearing more from you in future posts.:)

yay!!! august for me! screamo is like kind of emo music but all screaming not whiny and annoying (well, annoying for some at least). atreyu for example....possible avenged sevenfold.

Pretty in Punk--I checked out Atreyu's Lipstick and Black just now on Youtube (cuz I seem to be obsessed with Youtube lately--sadly). Their music seems derivative of death metal. The yelling (we called it "the growl" back in high school) and the fast music. These guys actually look a lot less scruffy and sound more melodic than the death metal guys though. I actually found one of the Bay Area thrash bands (Death Angel) I used to listen to in high school on Youtube--check out this crap I used to listen to way back when (actually they were considered pretty good at the time):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zxFeWBmwgc
This is a recent video--these guys were a somewhat cuter way back when (circa 1986 maybe)--they look a lot different now--more punk or something. The beginning riff is one of I think only three things I swear I was able to play on the guitar back then, and like a dork I would play it over and over and over again, trying to play it faster and faster.  ;D I can't believe I used to listen to this stuff...truly...I couldn't listen to it today if I wore earplugs I think.  :D That's what happens when you get older! When you're a kid you think, I'll NEVER stop listening to this music! And then one day you find yourself really enjoying Enya and the soundtrack to The Gladiator. It may happen, be forewarned!  ;) ;D

hi, my name is caitee and i'm 15 years old. in august i will officially be a one year old vegan! haha. i live in the pittsburgh area in pennsylvania. i love listening to music!! especially metal, punk, techno, thrash, reggae, ska, screamo, nu metal, and other things. i love animals, hanging out with my friends, reading, learning, the rain, coffee, writing, yoga, and just enjoying life if everything is okay at that time. my parents totally hate my viewpoints and the fact that i'm a vegan. i'm very open minded and i don't care what anybody thinks about me and i'm one of the easiest people to talk to. i'd like to become a hindu when i'm older but buddhism is also beginning to look pretty appealing. i love making friends and meeting new people. Thats about the beginning of it....haha

Peace to everyone

Hey, Caitee, it's great to finally learn your name!

My Mom's from near Pittsburgh, and I have fond memories of the place - visiting my grandparents when I was a kid.

I can totally relate to the coffee and rain thing (tho not the yoga - I can't do it!)

Hi!  My name is Courtney and I am a college sophomore.  I am majoring in International Political Economy and designing my own minor in Environmental Policy.  I am completely over-involved in school activities, various national and regional committees, and an internship but I enjoy being busy.  I have been vegetarian since I was six (which most people find very difficult to comprehend) and vegan for the last three and a half years - I am never going back!  I love camping, hiking, and taking pictures, especially in black and white.  In the summer, I teach swimming lessons and am a head lifeguard.  I love animals, green grass, swimming, polka dots, and organizing/cleaning!

My name is Clay and I live in GA.  I have two cats and a roommate who doesn't say much.  I work at a hotel, for some reason after gettin out of my quite rut-like job at another hotel, I decided that I should go back to hospitality.  I originally started being an ovo-lacto back in about '02.  There was a girl I liked and she was veg and I figured it couldn't be that bad of an idea.  Well, it never really panned out with the girl, but I did notice that not ingesting all of those animal parts was causing me to not be near as much of a fat ass, so I stuck with it.  I ended up dropping nearly 70 lbs I think at the least 50, I don't really recall.  So after not eating meat for so long I get some advice that I might as well not eat eggs or cheese.  So now I'm going mildly veg, I'm not really snapping over vitamin sourcing or fortified foods, although I consciously avoid them, I don't scour my cupboards for traces of animal products, but I don't purchase them. At any rate, with a longhaired cat, I probably ingest 2 lbs of cat hair a year and I'm not sure if that's vegan.  I can actually be a wealth of knowledge and advice on a number of subjects, I read inordinate amounts of non-entertainment literature so I am fairly well abreast of current events.  Just don't ask me about American Idol.

This thread is great for being so old!  I recall various other 'welcome' and 'who are you' threads over the years.

My name is Cali online and Kerry in RL.  I am going to be 34 this year and my daughter Angel is 14.  I mention her because I always use her birthday as the 'anniversary' of my veggieness.  When she was 5, I went L/O Veg for health reasons.  When she was 10, I went Vegan after a bad cheese reaction.  I have food allergies that result in intestinal problems which makes things difficult.

When Angel was 7, I made my home vegan, after her dad and I divorced.  Now I am happily remarried to an amazing man that is a vegan at home because he eats whatever I cook.  I have slipped a bit in my veganism by eating Soya Kass cheese with casein or less than 2% of eggs, as my body can tolerate those.

I grew up in Mariposa California and went to school at Merced College.  I have lived in Grand Forks North Dakota, Murfreesboro Tennessee and now Danbury Connecticut.  The east coast is much easier to be vegan than ND!!

I work as an administrative assistant for a Financial company in CT where I am basically an Excel Guru.  Its a very young company and we even have a small group of Veggies that occasionally get together for lunch.

I consider myself Bi, a pirate, a Goddess, avid reader of webcomics and a gamer.  LB (my hubby) and I play MMORPG's together, currently WoW.  We go to the NY Ren Faire all season in garb as well as others in the area.  I listen to music ranging from Depeche Mode, The Beatles, Dave Mathews, Voltaire, Tartan Terrors (bagpipes mmmm!) to Peter Paul & Mary.  I can grow plants in my cube at work but not at home.  This year my Stevie cat of 15 years had to be put down when he stopped eating & drinking, he was 17.  Gryphin (4.5y male feline) now has an arch enemy whom I adopted from a shelter.  Baby (5y female feline) is still not comfortable with him even though she came to live with us over Easter.

I started reading vegweb the first year I was Veg, 1998.  The past two years I have been at Positive Living and stopped coming to VegWeb.  Since PL is no more, I have come back here in my spare time.  Its great to see old faces (waves at Lezly, Brad, Sparkle & Tweety) as well as new.

I know Mariposa... a county with no incorporated city.

My 50-year-olds parents are suddenly into that show and it's very weird because they've never watched TV in their lives....of all things to start watching...

I think I've made an introduction blurb somewhere else, but anyway, the short version is that I'm a 26-year-old teacher living in Southern Minnesota, currently. I've previously lived in Nebraska, Missouri, and Texas. When I'm not at school, I love being outside, cooking, reading, and spending time with my family. When I retire from teaching, I plan to open a vegan restaurant in a small town and introduce Midwestern people to the world of vegan goodness gradually. I like to think the world will have made a massive lifestyle shift by that time, but just it case it hasn't, I'm practicing by trying out all the yummy recipes and ideas on vegweb. So keep 'em coming!

My parents too!  My dad is completely ignorant of popular culture, (no complaints from me!) but actually stays up past his normal bedtime to watch American Idol.  I don't get.  But...to each his own.

American Idol keeps the masses preoccupied with things other than the Iraq war, insidious laws being passed behind our backs, scores of drugs being shipped over from Afghanistan, etc. The show has it's purposes.  ::)

Hi everybody    :)

i'm 25 years old living in Toronto, Canada working full time as a pharmacy tech.
i have been vegan for 2 years, was vegetarian for a short while before that....i have been an animal lover since a child and always felt very conflicted about eating meat. Finally one day i saw 'Meet your Meat' and that was it.
Haven't looked back since.  I signed up to vegweb about a year ago to browse the recipes but that was about it, just started really looking around and posting a few days ago.
All of my friends and family are hardcore meat eaters which is a bit tough sometimes because they dont really understand.

its nice to be in the company of like minded people, so here iam  ::)

Let's see,

I am going to be 22 this year and am from Chicago, Illinois. My small and strange family consists of myself, my mother, an Italian Chef named Luigi who lives in our ground level, and our five Brussels griffons. My stepfather is in the process of moving in and works in radio programming/production and my mother and I own a handmade chocolate shop on Clark street out here.

I'm just starting college three years late after putting in time with the business and trying to maximize money for school. I will be starting my molecular biology/chemistry minor program this fall and hope to be one day working laboratory sciences (in Europe maybe :P ) with emphasis on infectious disease reasearch and/or pharmaceuticals.

All my life we've eaten 90% vegetarian but after having some recent digestive issues as well as just being generally disgusted looking at my fellow chubby, unhealthy Americans and between taking santitation and watching enough farming videos decided to phase into veganism. I have a wonderful boyfriend of three years who has put the foot in my ass to pursue my dreams that much faster.

I've had a strange childhood between being raised in a highly christian suburb of Chicago, to belonging to a Santerian cult, to running around with occultists. So therefore, I'm not so religious as I've grown up. Just a nerdy science lover who wants to one day travel, work in a lab, and hopefully learn Spanish fluently and cook better nutritiously.

Hope to meet more of you all.

Hi!
I'm Susan. I'm 36 and I live in San Diego.
I recently decided to become a member after getting recipes off here for awhile.
I'm vegan and my 13 year old daughter who is an omni eats vegan in my home.
She thinks this site is funny and calls it vegan myspace.
I'm very opinionated when it comes to politics. I'm a proud liberal and just don't get conservatives.
Veganism for me centers on the environment, but I feel for the animals. I'm not in any animal rescue groups, but I save feeder mice from being dinner. (They make good minions like my hamsters. ;D )
I've lived in a number of places, but my heart was left in Arcata, CA.

Hello!
I'm Vanessa, twenty-one in October, and living in North Carolina with my (also vegan) husband.
I work in a military dining facility - rather mundane computer work..which is why I've spent so much time lurking around this site and forum.
I love to cook - got to show the masses that no, vegans don't just eat carrot sticks and lettuce (Unless that's just the beginning of a deliciously loaded salad).
I grew up as an Army brat..
I try to get out and ride my bike, take walks..just enjoy the outdoors (when the humidity isn't 100000%).
I also thoroughly enjoy a good book. Or a few at a time.
Of course..this is only part of what could soon become a lengthy "about me" session. So, enough.
I love discussions.  I love interesting conversation.
