Roll Call!

Edit.  The following intro is a bit old.  I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years.  Just couldn't be worked out.  I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now.  I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!!  Woot!

Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous!  I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

I deleted my Myspace page.  I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name.  Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.

Edit #3 - Finally went vegan.  The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners.  I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets.  I'm loving it!  Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore.  LOL  I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate.  I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.

Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor.  I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job.  w00t

It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself.  I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years????  But I don't know a lot of you.

I am a nurse.  I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".)  I am gay.  I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.

I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.

I have a very boring blog here:  http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13

You're turn.  Tell me your business!

Hello!
I'm Vanessa, twenty-one in October, and living in North Carolina with my (also vegan) husband.
I work in a military dining facility - rather mundane computer work..which is why I've spent so much time lurking around this site and forum.
I love to cook - got to show the masses that no, vegans don't just eat carrot sticks and lettuce (Unless that's just the beginning of a deliciously loaded salad).
I grew up as an Army brat..
I try to get out and ride my bike, take walks..just enjoy the outdoors (when the humidity isn't 100000%).
I also thoroughly enjoy a good book. Or a few at a time.
Of course..this is only part of what could soon become a lengthy "about me" session. So, enough.
I love discussions.  I love interesting conversation.
Bring it on 8)

I work on Ft. Bragg, and have been living here for years as a result of the Army (Hoo-ah! and all that jazz..).  Pope AFB has definately been cutting down on their numbers - I think it may be closing down sometime in the near future.

I am Melody, 44 years old.  I was born and raised in Taipei, came to US for graduate study.  I met my husband (4th generation Chinese American) when I was in school.  After I finished school, we married, and now for 16 years.  I am a happy content homemaker. Three years ago we moved from Portland OR to outskirt of Carson City NV. All of my families are still in Taiwan and friends are in Portland OR, so I am kind of lonely here.  We don’s have children but we had 3 bunnies, an Old English Sheep Dog, 2 cats, but only one cat remain with us.  I found out I will be vegetarian when my mom ask me to help her to clean and cut meat.  Cutting flesh totally freaked me out.  I have been Lacto Ovo vegetarian for a while and turned vegan 2 years ago.  I am pre-diabetes and on Eat to Live for a little less than 2 months and lost about 20 pounds, and I still have a long way to go.

I enjoy to read cookbooks, and a huge fan of British actor Jeremy Northam since the movie “The Winslow boy.” Favorite movie ” Pandaemonium.” Favorite singers are Roberto Alagna, Angela Gheorghiu, and Vittorio.  I love BBC radio 3 “ Andy Kershaw”, and Sunday morning public broadcast ” Car Talk.”  I can’t seem to be able to miss any “Antique roadshow.”

Oooo Vegetarian Day sounds Awesome!  It would be great if we could all go :)

As for me, my name is Ariana, I'm from California moved to NY about 5 years ago to attend shcool and now im staying for the fun...at least for now.  I play bass and want to start a band, so if anyone is or knows someone in the NY area with a bit of musical ability let me know YAY!  I've been veggie for 5 years now, and plan on not going back to the carnivore lifestyle.  I love Squirrels, white peaches, music, small venues, converese/vans, my dream car is a 1960s VW bus and my dream bicycle is a 50s style schwinn red or purple bike with a basket  :D

Oh yes, a thread mdvegan!

Southern Cali, Rosemead more specifically.  No one ever really know where that is, so I usually say a 10 minute drive from Pasadena :)

I've loved reading this thread, and getting to know you all.

I'm Faith (not my birth name, but the name I gave myself!). My husband and I live in the DFW area in north Texas USA. I've been a vegetarian since June 16th, so not quite 2 months yet. For years I've leaned towards cutting back on the meat, but noticed we kept veering back to eating it regularly again all the time. But when I got involved in a theatre group this year, one of the founders and a very good friend of mine is veg*n, and it got my mind turning that way again. And one of the first things I've noticed is how my older friends (not my theatre friends, thankfully) and family seem to think they have a right to discuss what I do and don't eat.

I'm 43, no kids--couldn't have any and didn't feel adoption was right for us, all things considered. I'm a writer, avid reader, theatre buff, and now I'm also an actor/playwright, etc. I work as an admin assistant and completely hate the job, but it pays the bills for now. Our theatre group is trying to go nonprofit; I'm hoping that one of these days between writing and working with my theatre group, I'll at make enough to quit the boring day job!  My husband's a telecom engineer by trade, and a rock star; he's gotten mobbed at one airport by people thinking he was Jon Bon Jovi! He's not, but he definitely is a fantastic musician.  He was not at all supportive of my decision to become a vegetarian initially, but has gradually swung around. He's seen my complexion clear up beautifully, and even my mild rosacea is better. If I could just drop some pounds, I think his last objections would vanish. :)

I found VegWeb probably right around the time I made the switch, when I was looking for recipes. And I've been lurking here for a while. So what does it say about me that the thread that finally got me to start posting was about farts?

My 50-year-olds parents are suddenly into that show and it's very weird because they've never watched TV in their lives....of all things to start watching...

My parents too!  My dad is completely ignorant of popular culture, (no complaints from me!) but actually stays up past his normal bedtime to watch American Idol.  I don't get.  But...to each his own.

American Idol keeps the masses preoccupied with things other than the Iraq war, insidious laws being passed behind our backs, scores of drugs being shipped over from Afghanistan, etc. The show has it's purposes.  ::)

Speak it enlightened one.

I am brand new to vegweb and been vegan for about 2 and a half months, regrettably. I really enjoy eating meat as my profile suggests, but I think we as humans are big enough to rise above the inhumanity involved, so until we can kill and process meat humanely and with a respect due to animals giving their lives to sustain mine/ours I will refrain except for every now and then (couple times a month, just because I love it so). I have always liked the idea because it is very noble and while I am not a knight I still like the idea of being chivalrous and noble. My wife is VestaTuran, she is on vegweb also (it is all her fault!)  ;) .

I see here that many of you  have a "thing" whether it be PETA folk or gay or whatever. My "thing" is that I am an atheist, as a few of you may have discovered if you have visited my myspace. I am big on the scientific method and as some people put it "scientific dogma". It works, just ask your TV remote or your, well, anything. So I opt to buy into it instead of supernatural stuff. I am an Engineering Physics major (senior year) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University which kind of lends to my belief in science working the way it does.

I may come off as a bit of a harda$$, but I really am a nice guy and love just about everything whether it be something I like or not. I am however a cynic which gets taken as dislike half the time , even from my parents and siblings but that is because they won't put any effort into thinking period, let alone thinking about what I'm trying to say.

I have a strong opinion about the current administration leading the country right now, which I won't get into unless someone feels like discussing, because this doesn't really seem like an avenue to discuss things like that, at least not from what I've seen so far, so I won't be the one to drag that dead , festering, stinking, rotten, obviously against all that is known (or used to be known) as American...........I degress, I just won't do it unless solicited. I am a former Marine and had no idea that the country would take the turn it has so forgive me. We hated Clinton when I was serving, I wonder how the service folk feel about this one ........

Ok now, I am pretty cool with my veganism after a couple of months practice so I feel at ease discussing it, so it is nice to meet you all.

I'm from Sacramento, but I lived in So. CA for several years while I went to college.  I think I've lived just about everywhere between Riverside and Pomona.

I'm Tiffany - I'm a 30 year old university administrator from Texas.  I'm straight, never been married, have no kids and happily single with three furbabies.  I've been on VegWeb, lurking since November, although I didn't officially become vegetarian until this past June, right after I turned 30.  I realized that my life could feasible be half over and it scared the hell out of me.  It made me re-evaluate literally everything and rethink the life choices I'd been making.

In addition to several other changes, I began eating vegetarian (which I'd done on and off before, although not eating a healthy diet those times) and I found fabulous recipes on this site.  I've discovered that I love to bake and cook - it's amazing how I can truly taste what I'm eating.

Once my staff training ends at the end of August (and I no longer have to feed and eat with 26 staff members for3 meals a day), I plan on going vegan, which is due to the mailings I got from Mercy for Animals and PETA.  The stories and photos made me realize that I just can't add to the torture animals.

At this point, I know no other vegans and very few people understand my choice.  Thank goodness I have VegWeb and everyone here.  Although I've never met many of you and I haven't posted often, I do feel like I have friends here who understand.  :)
