Ayayay! (transitioning veg*n)

Well friends, confession is good for the soul, they say. Yesterday I fell of the veggie wagon with a crash :-[--as some know I'm a returnee for the last few months. Well we had a party and I ate some roast chicken, I just couldn't resist. :P Got up this morning and felt (still feel) like I have a hangover...lethargic, headache, sore muscles...ughh. :( When my student arrived for her tutorial she said, "What's up?" and I replied, "Vegetarians shouldn't eat meat!" She recommended I do detox today, which I am. DH is an out-and-out carnivore; his words of wisdumb were "you should never have stopped and then it wouldn't affect you." Oh really. This is proof positive that I really Do feel better as a veggie. Went out after class and bought a boatload of fresh fruit and veg...and forgot the parsley... ::)

when i first stopped eating meat, i craved it every now and again. but as the years went by, and the concept of eating meat became more and more foreign to me, the idea just seemed WEIRD, and i no longer craved it. now thinking about eating the flesh of another animal seems really strange, and i can't imagine doing it. i still sometimes miss the flavors of old favorite dishes, but i have no desire to eat actual meat anymore. i bet as time goes by those cravings won't happen to you as freuently. being married to someone who eats meat must make it harder though. good luck; i hope you feel better soon!

A mistake you may have made, but your willingness to create such a bold confession proves that, somewhere in there, lies a true veggie.  Otherwise it would be nothing to you, and "sneaking" would become a natural, guilt-free practice.  I'm in no position to be critical of you; I, like many, have had a fair share of slip-ups in my trials and errors of veganism.  As time goes by your cravings will most likely subside, or at least, that's what I've concluded through my own experiences - at one point I might have died for a hamburger, but now, the concept of consuming rotting flesh absolutely sickens me.  And during the points at which I did cave in I became very ill, finally resolving to never eat meat again ... for life.

It may be difficult at times, but keep up with it as long as you can, and remember that there are some really excellent meat alternatives on the market.  Whatever you crave, whether it be beef, pork, or chicken, I'm sure you can find a convincing substitute and work it into any dish.  Be strong!

Wow, one serving of meat never made me feel so bad.  But I definately feel better not eating me for sure.

Consider it a lesson learned and I hope you feel better soon.  :)

Well, I have to admit...I ate quite a lot. To use a carnivore's phrase, I pigged out. I think what also affected me was a lot of salt--it was a commercially-prepared dish with piripiri sauce (Portuguese chili oil) and quite heavy on the salt compared to what I usually use.
Lesson learned, though. I may be good, but I'm slow.  ::)Thanks for all the support, pals.

Yeah, pigging out always makes me feel bad the next day.  The holidays are brutal sometimes.
