bruising?

recently i feel like i've been bruising pretty easily.  i play co-ed indoor soccer and it can be pretty physical but i have far too many bruises to account for it.  my legs are covered in black and blue and it takes about 2 wks or so for them to go away but by that point i have new ones.
is easy bruising a sign of something?
a few wks ago i got my blood drawn (due to another issue i was having) and i didn't get a call regarding the results so i'm thinking that i'm not anemic.
any ideas?  i've recently become vegan but i didn't drink any milk before that and i didn't eat that much meat before so i don't think it should be due to the diet change.
thanks for your input.

Sounds like a Vitamin A deficiency. I used to get this. They also used to tell me "vitamin K" which I have never heard of. I don't know what veg you can eat that will give you lots of Vit A but I'm sure someone here can enlighten us both.

I bruise easily too.  I always seem to have a mystery bruise (not so much in the last few weeks).  Sweet Potatoes and I think Cantaloupe are high in Vitamin A.  African Grey's need vitamin A so I give Biko sweet potatoes or yams and cantaloupe.  Maybe I should start eating more of them myself!

this is definitely something i would mention to my doctor.  if you are suddenly bruising easily, it can mean different things, maybe just a vitamin deficiency.  usually it is vitamin C, E or K.  vitamin C especially keeps the walls of arteries, veins and capillaries strong and elastic.

sometimes bruising can be a sign of something mroe serious.  if it is accompanied by fever or night sweats, weakness, headaches, bleeding from the gums or swollen lymph nodes in the armpits, neck or groin area, i would make a call.

you proabably just need a little more C in your life!!

Unless you're not eating any fruits and vegetables then I wouldn't worry about a Vitamin A deficiency or even a Vitamin C deficiency.  I would think this condition would be rare for vegans and vegetarians and it would be strange for these nutritients to decrease in a vegan diet causing bruising, but I don't know what you're eating, so I can't tell.

I definately would return to the MD.  It could be nothing, but it could be a coagulapthy that needs attention.  If you have a bleeding disorder you want to know because while you can see outward signs in the form of bruises, you may not see internal bleeding.

i've had this for a while too, my doctor told me it was Vitamin K and then explained that his mother had it badly. he told me that things like lobster or shrimp have a lot of vitamin k (if i remember correctly) but obviously none of us will be eating those things. i think he told me that spinach and kale and lettuce have a lot of vitamin K.

i personally take vitamin K supplements that you can get at GNC and it has worked well for me  even if i just take one every other day
