to-do list (2006 forum format feedback)

Hi,
Thanks for all of your constructive ideas for the site, and we apologize for the delay and inconvenience of getting the recipes re-organized. The old way in which the recipes were set up had a number of inherent problems that could only be fixed with a database-type structure.

Here is a short list of things that we are working on right now. Feel free to add your own suggestions to this list.

1) Transfer ratings - we're going to give it a shot, will post a reply here in a couple of hours. Done.

2) Recipe Boxes are currently being converted, and we'll reply here when it's done.

3) Re-organization of all recipes into sub-categories.

This one will be an on-going process, but we could use your help, if you are willing. I've set up the Beverages category with subcateories and am working on the Beans category. All you have to do is go click on Beverages, click on a recipe below the list of sub-categories, click on the "move topic" button at the bottom of the recipe (you must be logged in to see it), select a sub-category of Beverages and click the "Move Topic" button. That would be a great help. javascript:void(0);

4) Separation of new recipe reviews & Q&A posts on the homepage.

5) Adjust how recipes look when printed.

6) Add link for new recipes

7) Adjust visual display of Recipe Directory to give it a pre-change look/feel

In the meantime here, I'm going to go finish the beans category and look into the recipe ratings a bit more.

When you say that you are reworking the recipe boxes, does that mean that our saved recipes will be back? *fingers crossed*

Yes, the recipe boxes will be back with your saved recipes. A script is doing the conversion right now on the recipe boxes ... it's just taking a long, long time.

The recipe ratings have been added. We changed the home page for to show "New Recipes and Recipe Reviews. At this point in time, there is not a way to distinguish between the two for that box.

Thanks for the suggestions. Also, thank you One for sorting a lot of recipes in the Beverages categories. We'll be adding the sub-categories for the other categories shortly.

Thanks baypuppy! We can look into adding more smilies after things calm down a bit. :)

FYI to Everyone - everyone else's Recipe Boxes are still being processed - it's just taking a while. We'll post a message when they are all done.

Yvette,

First, thank you so much for all your hard work, dedication and time on keeping VegWeb up, running and usable.  I know just how needed it can be to migrate information from old systems to new.  This is probably taking tons of time and effort and I wanted to let you know that its greatly appreciated.

Secondly, what can we do to help?  Are there more recipes to organize?  Just let us know and I would be pleased to help as much as possible.

You rock Yvette! Thank you so much.

All of the Recipe Boxes that have been recently accessed are now converted over. We'll be finishing up the rest, but let us know if you encounter any problems with accessing your Recipe Box.

Cali, I can definately use your help and anyone elses that would like to organize recipes. All of the sub-categories up to and including Dips, Dressings and More have been added so far. The recipes need to be re-catorgized into their respective categories in all of them except for Breakfast category, which is now done. Just click on a category, select a recipe below the list of sub-categories, click on the "move topic" button at the bottom of the recipe (you must be logged in to see it), select a sub-category and click the "Move Topic" button.

Note: There a lot of Appetizer recipes that belong in a totally different main category. Also, sub-category suggestions for Appetizers are welcome. They can't duplicate any existing subcategories - so a dip for pita bread, for example, should probably fall under the Dip category in Dips, Dressings and More.

Thanks!

Hey there Yvette and everybody else!

I believe I have something to add to the TO DO list. I went to print a recipe out and it's pretty funky. All the links (Add to Recipe Box/Grocery List/Meal Planner) are showing up as well as all the code for the links. Same thing goes for the links in the ingredients. The comments are printing too. Also, if there is some way that we can get the name of the recipe to come up big at the top of the page (rather than the middle of the page), that would be pretty helpful. I like to print out the recipes that I use and keep them organized in a recipe book at home.

Thanks a bunch for doing all this Yvette and everybody else that is helping out! I will try to help organize when I get home from work tonight. I love VEGWEB!!!!!!!!!

Peace,
Caroline

Is there currently a way to see the new recipes? I KNOW it was mentioned previously but can't find it...

Thanks Caroline, I'll look into adjusting how recipes look when printed.

nix70c, currently, new recipes will appear in the same section with new recipe reviews on the home page. But we would like to look into having new recipes have their own section. We would like to have all of the recipes re-organized back into their respective sub-categories before adding new recipes. Right now, all of the recipe have roughly the same "added" date, since they were all imported into this forum-based database structure at the same time.

We also be adjusting the visual display of the Recipe Directory to give it a pre-change look/feel within the next few days. If you have any suggestions, please reply here.
