Hi im a noob!

Hi, like I said im a noob to beinv a vegan. I live alone and I am not the most skilled cook, i can screw up poptarts in a foaster. I was wondering if someone could give me a few poinfers on where to begin, a mentor would be nice! Thank you in adavnce everybody!!

hello noob!

you may find more luck in Dine n Dish, or suggestions on cookbooks in Cookbook Lab. There are loads of cookbook reviews in there, which might help you if you want to learn to cook from one/some of them (Veganomicon in particular has lots of basic pointers in the beginning of the book).

Feel free to post any specific questions you might have :)

I would just keep it simple at first and make sure you're eating a wide variety of foods......salads (get those ready prepared dark green leafy things and stay away from iceberg lettuce adding a wide variety of veggies), stir fries over brown rice....whole grain pasta, canned beans and chickpeas, wraps, and such. I always recommend Robin Robinson's book 1000 Vegan recipes to new cooks because she offers a wide variety of everything in simple and easy to prepare ways.

It's my opinion that eventually a successful vegan is one that becomes comfortable in the kitchen. It's a process but with commitment and determination and getting rid of the self-imposed image of "I can't cook" this time next year you'll find yourself with a well stocked vegan pantry.

All the best. Remember we're here for you!
