The "I'd Like to Thank" Thread

This is a thread to express our gratitude...to people we know, or people we don't. To anyone you feel has been helpful, supportive, or otherwise positive in  your life, living or dead. Even if it's just the author of a book written 300 years ago, or whatever.

I'll start. I'd like to thank VegWebbers, particularly Amymylove, for helping me break the addiction to OTC sleeping pills. I know I've tried to do this before but this time it feels different. Posting about it here helped me face it, and talk about it to people like DH and my church. I'm still working through it (the occasional sleepless night) but I am sure this time that I really don't "need" those little pink things. I actually sleep better without them. I realise now that I do dream more, even if the dream is gone the second I open my eyes.

Thanks, friends. Thanks also to Doctor J, Charo and Vicente, and the longsuffering man who married me.

this is a great idea, yabbit!

i'd like to thank the people that labeled me as a nerd in middle school (sincerely, not sarcastically) because i'm pretty much the only one that didn't end up with a kid, as a druggie/alcoholic, or a slut.

i also wanna thank my real friends and vegweb for holding me up when i couldn't do it myself. <3

Great idea yabbitgirl!  :)  How positive (and absolutely overflowing with lovely karma, too)!
I'd like to thank all of the awesome vegwebbers for taking me in after the server-failure demise of vegpeople.  You have all been so lovely and supportive, and your recipes are absolutely scrumptious.
I'd also like to thank my boss (YES, REALLY!).  I'm on a temporary contract right now, so she knows that my time is limited, and has given me time off to go to interviews for other jobs, and is helping me prepare for interviews.  So nice!!!

I just had to look that up.  I hadn't heard of vegpeople.

For now, I'd like to thank my mom. She's the only one who's stood by me through thick and thin as I've pushed, pulled, deconstructed and constructed during my journeys through life.

I'd like to thank my mom for teaching me to read. And for always having money for books even if that meant never having "in" clothes. Who remembers the styles of the 70s? But the books I read then are still with me.

Besides which, here in Spain the 70s styles are back anyway. I am sitting here typing this...in a granny dress. Paisley, yet.

Round 2 of 3

At this time, I'd like to thank -

Linda, my high school music/theatre teacher. We used to joke that she was my mom #2. I remember, during our first choir trip, I said something really smartass and very tongue-in-cheek to her..something a new freshman shouldn't say to their new teacher. She later told me that she thought, "who the hell does this kid think he is?!"  >:D Over the years, though, we became great friends as she ultimately taught me the true meaning of music and has been one of my biggest fans over the years.

Yabbit and Minke. They were the first people to accept me on VegWeb. Yabbit continues to accept me through my trials and errors and catastrophes. And for that, I'm grateful. Yabbit has even sent me several emails, private messages, cards and letters..not to mention love. That has meant so much to me.

IdrilAsphodel. She has opened my world to the world of feminism. Granted, I've always known of feminism but never knew feminism. I'm still verrrrry new to the subject and won't try to pass myself as a know-it-all. I'm open to new ideas. And, to me, feminism just makes sense. I'll be the first to admit that I don't have a ton of stats/figures memorized but I just know we need things like feminism to advance as a country and as a people. I'm gladly lending my smarts, my passion, and my loud-mouth to the cause.

Chuck. Chuck was the choir director of a statewide honor choir in which I participated in high school. He and I have become great great friends over the years and I feel horrible that I've not sent him a birthday card. Chuck was very influential in helping me build an honest, trustworthy, loving, strong, empathetic character. This has been a great foundation throughout my life.

One more post to come...

Don't limit yourself, Josh. Take all you want.
That's what this thread is for.

I'd like to thank "the Theresas"...St Theresa of Avila for writing so that I could hear her voice. And for showing me that I may not be "normal" (whatever that is) but I'm also not  the only person who's ever been there and done that. Therese of Lisieux for showing me the "little way."

I'd also like to thank John Donne for his poems, particularly the Holy Sonnets, particularly Number 11. It's the only poem that moves me to tears every. single. time. I read it.

Lastly but sure as hell not least.....

I'd like to thank

Ms. jessimaka33 for being a great friend over the past 9 months. Not only did she keep in touch and text me daily for 8 months straight, she invited me into her home as I made my way from Ohio to Oregon. Yes, very scary for the both of us. I didn't totally know her and she didn't totally know me. Good thing we were honest about who we were from the get go. I thank her for her honesty, her willingness to stand up to me and her questioning of me when I've been stupid. I'm forever grateful.

Ms. Sea_of_Green for being a great friend of mine for the past 10 months. She's been very accepting (and somewhat encouraging) of my inner goofiness. She's taught me to cut loose and let it out that I'm a goofball.

NIN. Without ramblling on and on and on.... Let's just say - THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! You've saved my life on more than one occasion. :)

I'd also like to thank Storm, veganhippie, faunablues, Courth, fufuberry, Hanashi, Shelloid, humboldt_honey, secondbase, theodamus, baypuppy, charlie_fo_farlie, Tweety, Heliamphora, mirrya1, treehugginghippiefreak, carrot_wench, laurenlovesgoodies, babysgotsauce, underSARAH, amymylove....and alllllll of the other lovely people I've shared a conversation or word with in or outside the forums. Some of you, I'm currently building great friendships with and I hope that continues. :)

I'd like to thank Project Gutenberg, Fire and Ice, FB2, The Ethereal Library, Audiocite, TeamArmendariz, and all the other websites making free, out-of-copyright texts available. I am able to read books I couldn't get paper copies of even if I could afford them, because they simply aren't in print anymore.

I'd like to thank whoever invented the ebook reader. I fought against it until I realised the above. I can now read 17th century classics in the comfort of...well, wherever I happen to be...without having to lug around huge heavy books and feel guilty for spending what I'd have to spend, IF I could find a real copy.

I'd like to thank Rabbi Sol Serber from Sons of Jacob Synagogue, Waterloo, IA, for teaching me to think.
He's probably deceased by now, he was edging on old 30 years ago.
He listened to my troubles for hours, gave excellent advice, and had a huge impact on my life. Which, without knowing it, he saved once, just by being there for me.
He taught me to read the Bible mindfully without trying to.
I only ever felt warmth and acceptance from himself and wife. And I'm not even Jewish.
"Nu...what is the lesson?"

I'd like to thank the members of Messiah Church for...being there. For proving to me I wasn't wrong. And that it isn't me. I'd like to thank them for living "as if it were true." For restoring my faith in my faith and in others who claim to share it. And for making me feel loved and valued, not just tolerated.

This is a lovely idea! :)

I'd like to thank all my fellow vegwebbers for accepting me into this tight knit community and for answering all my questions, no matter how silly they may seem, and for support & encouragement. You guys rock!

A HUGE thank you to my church family! I don't know what I'd do without their neverending love and support. These past several months have been very difficult for me and my family emotionally, physically, ad financially. They have always been there with a hug, a smile, a prayer, or whatever we needed. They are REAL family to me and I am thankful to God for putting them all in my life.

Thank you to my Sweetie. Gosh, where would I be without him??? He has been my rock through so many ups and downs and he loves me despite my weirdness, maybe because he's weird too, lol!

Thanks to the two best teenagers in the universe! God has blessed me with two beautiful and loving kids. I'm so proud to be their mom.

I guess the biggest thanks I have goes to God, for loving me despite being incredibly imperfect, for guiding me and never leaving my side, and for ALL the beautiful blessings He bestows on me and my family daily. :)

I would like to thank first and foremost the Vegweb community.  You guys rock!!!  You've been ther when I started my vegan journey, slipped, got lost, and came back.  Thank you for expanding my views on all subjects and helping me to learn more.  Not to mention the best recipes ever!!

I would also like to thank Adonai for this journey that I am on with him and all that he has taught me and continues teaching me.  I thank him for never giving up on me and showing me the meaning of true love.  I also thank him for putting everything in place for our family to finally discover our roots and where we really come from.

I would like to tahnk Rabbi Marty Waldman, Rabbi Ira Michaelson, and Dr. Vivian Guzman.  Your teachings are blessed and have helped me and my family come a long way on our road to  home.

I would like to thank my hubby Aaron.  I love you more than myself.  Thank yor for being such an accepting loving husband and father to my son even when you didn't have to be.  You have supported me in way more than you should have had to endure.  You let me be myself.  Even if I am a little off :)  You really are my rock and I can not imagine life without you.

To my mija we have been through thick and thin and you know me better than myself.  Thank you for always having my back and never judging me and listening.  Thank you for encouraging me in my life.

I would like to thank my ex who had a part in forming one of the best gifts I have ever received.  My son Nicolas Angel.

To my mom I love you and you have always been there and just listened.  You let me express myself in any way I chose and never judged me.  You gave up so much so that I could have what I needed.

To my dad although you are no longer with us I love you and miss you.  You were never one to talk much but, you always had something wise to say.  If I would have listned to your advice my life would have been easier.  I can now see the love and wisdom in your advice.
