I'm drunk

Let's talk about it.

"Mommy, what's an enabler?

When i grow up I want to marry a drunk just like daddy, 'cause he's so cute and funny when he's drunk"

Kind of inappropriate huh?

Ck was not drunk in front of anyone inappropriate or in any dangerous situations, in fact it appears he was safe in the privacy of his own home!....And he hardly ever drinks!

In language you probably understand,

Thou shall not judge lest ye be judged.

Geesh.

Drunk-CK haters not allowed in this thread.  Only drunk-CK enablers.  This is a posi-drunk-CK thread.

Katie is his fiancee, not his child.  Maybe you missed that part.   ::)

CK, I will enable you to be drunk any time.   :-* 8-)

Ohhh, haha. Way to assume.  ...and be rude.

Where was I when all this went down?  Not to say anything or anything but, only 7 beers?

I have no idea if that was the assumption, but it would be funny so that's what I'm going with.  Either way it's rude.

Larisuena, 7 beers in an evening is a lot of alcohol. It is twice the legal limit for drunk driving in California.
Anyone who drinks 7 beers is drunk, and he is drinking alone, more than a 6 pack, what is he working on, a half of a case?

I wouldn't be drunk on seven beers.  But, again, I'd have puked it all up.  Only the residuals would have made it into my system.

I understood from CK's profile that Katie is his fiance. I was simply using a literary device, a vignette to introduce some perspective on drunkeness into this thread about getting drunk; which up until then was treated as this fun and funny cute cool thing, instead of a foolish, self-destructive, disfunctional, and dangerous thing.

But it's interesting to see how quickly the old guard gangs up and attacks a newbie who dares to express a possibly divergent opinion, even while not understanding it.

I think people are responding to this:  Projecting other people's alcoholism onto ck isn't fair to him because it doesn't fit.  That's not old guard or new guard.

Projecting other people's alcoholism onto ck isn't fair to him because it doesn't fit.

I'll take the first part of your sentence first;

Who says I'm projecting anything onto him? I haven't said anything about him yet. He is the one who brought up the topic of his drunken state for discussion in the forums. I am merely appealing to reason, and suggesting we take a clear-eyed look at this. You've had your fun with it. What's the harm in an intelligent discussion? If he can get drunk and write about it in the forums, he can handle others discussing it, I imagine. He's not a child, to be coddled, and protected from opinions; he's a man, isn't he? Why do you women all flap and squawk and act like I'm hurting him? No wonder there's so many drunks. Enablers are everywhere. Maybe the enablers are hurting him.

What do you mean that it doesn't fit?

It doesn't fit because CK is not an alcoholic.  He did not bring up the topic in order for other people to decide whether or not his behavior is acceptable.  If that were the case, he would have posted this thread in Food Fight, and he would have said, "Hey vegweb, whaddya think about the fact that I'm drunk right now?  Discuss the merits of my drunkenness."  No.  He posted for entertainment, for fun, and because the people in here are his friends.

It's just rude.  If you don't like what's going on in a particular thread, don't participate, unless that thread is a debate topic in nature.  General forum etiquette.  You have a right to behave otherwise, but it won't make you many friends on this forum.  You're making yourself out to be a troll.

And it's in your tone as well.  If you'd had a real concern, the appropriate thing to do would have been to send CK or one of his friends a private message voicing those concerns.  Voicing them publicly in a snarky way smacks of judgment and attention-seeking, not compassion.

I agree with KMK

There are several threads out and about that people may/may not agree with morally because, like it or not, veg*ns come from ALL walks of life. We have atheists, pagans, Christians, Catholics, and agnostics.  We have pet owners and those who don't believe in having pets. We have parents, grandparents and teenagers.  The populations here is diverse, and we love it. We're constantly being exposed to new ideas. If we find a thread that is offensive in some way, we avoid it, or, if we really WANT to debate it, and there isn't a current thread, we make one in the debate (Food Fight) forum.
But we also don't attack people, just ideas. and I think that whether or not you are intending it to, your tone is coming through very personal and very attacking.  I would suggest taking a breather to cool down a bit, and then if  you really want to discus drunkeness in general, and NOT one man's act of getting drunk, that you create a thread in the debate forum.

A few things...

First of all, I didn't have 7 beers.  I had 4 beers after the 3 tall glasses of kahlua, vodka, and pumpkin spice soymilk.  It was quite delicious.  Also, if I had had 7 beers, I would've still been super drunk.  I can get drunk off of 3 Rolling Rocks.  I bet I could get drunk off of O'Doul's.

Secondly, I'm flattered that you sarcastically think I'm both cute and funny when I'm drunk, LilyRoze, but I am not an alcoholic by any means.  I'm also not stupid, so I don't drive whenever I drink.  I stayed at home, played video games, posted on the internet, attempted to play my keyboard, and hung out with my dog Otis.  I took him outside so he could use the bathroom, yet he still crapped inside and ate my food after he knocked it on the floor...things he would've done regardless of me being drunk or sober.  I get drunk MAYBE once or twice a year, and even then that's a stretch for me.  I go to parties but don't drink.  I go out with my friends, I don't drink.  No one enables or persuades me to do anything.  I make my own decisions in life much to the dismay of others who wish I would be just like them and do the same dumb things they do.  I agree that it was slightly reckless, but I paced myself and cut myself off when I knew I couldn't handle anymore.  I was being responsibly reckless if that makes sense.  And I'm not going to be a bad father, either.

Cali, I somehow managed to wake up without a hangover.  I've only had a hangover once...just lucky, I suppose.

LilyRoze, did you used to post under a different name?  You sound very familiar........

Oh, I am so glad you did not get any after effects, CK!  I personally feel you are one of our mature, responsible and polite posters here on VW while also being fun, funny and approachable.

Lilyroze I believe you were out of line with your first post.  And then to claim the "old guard" jumps to defend when a variety of people respond to your "literary device"?  It was an insult directed at one person, which grew into an insult at many people.  And I for one am very disappointed.  If you do not like a post, simply do not read it.  If you do not like the people here, simply do not visit the forums.  And dont try that "I have every right to be here" line because so does everyone else and your opinion holds no more weight than theirs.

On a side note, I found a website with a recipe for home made kahlua if anyone is interested. =-)

Oh, hells yeah!  Break out the homemade kahlua link, fufu.

He is the one who brought up the topic of his drunken state for discussion in the forums.

Like other people have mentioned, there are different boards on the forum.  The potential harm of people drinking is a Food Fight discussion.

yeah, I think if any of us thought CK had a real drinking problem, we wouldn't be laughing and joking about it.
