You are here

The official, amazing, aimless chitchat thread.

So this is where we go to make small talk that doesn't really fit into other threads.
It's the thread with no attention span!

Frequent, arbitrary changes of topic are encouraged.  In fact, they are mandatory.

So, I was just thinking, wouldn't it be awesome to have the decor in each room of your house be inspired by a food?  Like, I was cutting up eggplant today, making my accidental eggplant chips, and I though, wow, this eggplant looks so pretty against this green plate!  I would love to  have a room inspired entirely by eggplant colors.  And then I thought there could be ones inspired by mangoes and apples and sweet potatoes and pretty much any other pretty food.

Hey, a friend of mine made these really awesome mosaics of all her food pictures based on color.  THIS is what I mean:

So, what was I saying?

Since you mentioned that, I've noticed there's also no time stamp, only a date. I don't know how I feel about *liking* in general but for recipe comments, I think it's really useful. If someone has a suggestion for improvement for the recipe and people have tried it and it worked, *liking* that comment will be really helpful. It would be great in that sense if it would do like Youtube does and move the highest rated comments to the top.

while i realized there was no edit function a while ago (and let vegweb know), i didn't even think of what that would mean for review threads. :O

Every now and then, on the side a recently active thing pops up and shows people who have been on. That replaces online now, I guess. OH MAN MINKE. I never even noticed the lack of a time stamp.

Ugh. Yes, a search function for the forums would be nice. I can't find the gosh darn blog review thread.

I tried to look through the Veganomicon review thread, but it was SO hard to read. We seriously need the ability to format our posts.

Other than that, I thiiink I'm getting used to it here.

The lack of forum search should be solved naturally within a few weeks once the external search engines have crawled the new site. In the meantime, I suppose one can try the terribly slow but 100% renewable-energy powered, biodegradable kuzu search™:

http://vegweb.com/community/dine-n-dish/official-blog-recipe-review-be-u...

(Basically it just uses some other search engine to get the exact title of the thread and which forum it was in, then drops common words and insert dashes until the URL looks like the style used here. After a few tries, it often finds the correct updated URL.)

As for formatting, the options do seem a bit limited at the moment. :\

Red with border?

Form-submit-button black-on-grey?

I'm not sure if those work, but even if they do, they feel like the result of an oversight, and so I imagine they will stop working the future.

So I didn't want to make a thread for this and it might be gross but whatever. Does anyone else have really HUGE nose pores full of gunky oily gunk? I'm trying to figure out a way to stop them from happening. All I do now is squeeze my nose to bits every once in a while but I can never get it under control. I don't really use any face wash or anything because my skin is always better without it. It's kind of like blackheads just very very huge.
Some one help me before I squeeze my nose off.

all i can say is: yep.

I have no idea if these would work, but maybe it's worth a try:

Hey Sarah -I recommend witch hazel. Wet a cotton ball and wipe your face a couple of times a day. Cheap and effective.

Thanks guys, I'll try witch hazel and then see if I can find those pore strip things at whole foods or my hfs (if I get them online it winds up costing more than they do for shipping, hah). I don't know why I didn't think of those things? They seem to have good reviews on a few sites.

Sarah, for a good, cheap face wash that you can make yourself, get some chamomile (bitter chamomile if they have it, chamomila matricaria) and make a cup or so kinda strong. If it's bitter chamomile, you'll have the actual flower heads, so drop them in cold water and bring it to the boil and then let it stand for five or ten minutes. When it's cool, strain it and wash your face with that. Now, in summer, I make a big old pint mug of it and keep it in the fridge so it's refreshing, too. Splash your face with it, I pour a little in my palm and rub it all over. Then apply the witch hazel with a cotton ball.
Squeezing your face isn't really good because the pores can get infected and gross.

That sounds like a neat idea yabbit. Thanks!

Hmm... bad things always happen when I leave this place for awhile.

So I haven't been on VW in months- OMG!! Sorry, I'm sure the site-redo is old news, but WOW. This will take some getting used to.

Yeah, I miss being able to track my own posts. The new format makes it hard to keep up with discussions.
Good to see you, GT!! Love the bluebird!!
I woke up at 2.30 having gone to bed at 11.30. Insomnia really pounds. I'd like to do some sewing but I'm afraid the noise of the machine would wake DH up and it's not his fault I can't sleep.

Thanks Yabbit! :) Hope you are well! I'm sorry to hear you can't sleep. I thought you'd be buried in a book!

Ahh! The new format is so slow! You click on a thread and it takes you to the first page? And no "Advanced Search" to search for other members? Booo....

Oh, I was buried in a book for awhile, but on 3 hrs of sleep I can't concentrate for very long. I know there are people who can get by on that but I am barely functional mentally on that little sleep.

It's not all that old news greenT. I think it's only been a couple of weeks. It's still pretty beta, but I'm glad they went with it instead of continuing to let the old site attack people. It's a great relief to be able to refer people to recipes here again without fear that I'm sending them to their computer's doom.
