Picking EG winners: which do you prefer?

And by "very high numbers," I mean we play and play and it just seems like it will go no where else. I vote for playing game out until high numbers and then poll with 1 vote (option 2). I would like to see if we can play the bean game out with just votes, but high number poll would be fine too.

Are we electing these beans and veggies for office?

Admittedly, many of the arguments about voting systems (especially those on the FairVote site) are clearly written with political elections in mind. However, the underlying issues are generally the same in any selection process. For example, with more than two choices under plurality voting, if everyone votes for their true favorite, this will often create a situation where the "winner" has less than half of the votes and might in fact be the Condorcet loser (basically, the choice which the majority most strongly opposes). This creates a strong incentive to vote for one of the apparently top two options, which in turn completely defeats the purpose of listing more than two options in the first place. I see this as just as important a reason to favor IRV when voting for beans as when voting for anything else.

Another, completely unrelated option which might fit better with the spirit of the elimination games is, once the game stops progressing, instead of adding a point to something and subtracting a point from something else, only allow subtracting a point from something. That would guarantee that the game concludes eventually.
