ok, not like we really need another 'reasons to...' thread, but a couple of times recently I had a reason to be excited, not necessarily reason to smile and so maybe other people do too!
My RTBE: I just bought my very first car!!!!! I get to pick it up next week, so have a little while before I get to drive it but yay!!
Today (April 24, 2012) is the anniversary of JFM being born!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Quick story (Part I):
For those who don't know, want to know and/or care to know - April 24th marks the anniversary/birthday of Joshua Fucking Montgomery. Let me tell you a story.
Years (but not centuries) ago, I started down a path into severe depression. It's hard to describe what I felt, what I thought and what I went through. To keep it simple - I hated everything about myself and everyone. I was full of anger, depression, and self-loathing. Anything and/or anyone that looked promising in my life, I found any way and every way I could to destroy them. And I do mean destroy.
On top of that, I wanted to die. Every day. Every way. I wanted to die. Suicide was my every thought. Madness was my comfort.
After I hit (in my mind) the bottom, I started to scoop up the pieces around me. Nothing fit. Nothing worked. But I kept pushing. I kept going. I wrapped myself in Nine Inch Nails music cocoons and music cocoons in general. I kept exploring and I kept asking questions. I kept living.
I then met her.
On April 23, 2010 I mustered every ounce of confidence I could and I went out with some old coworkers in Columbus, Ohio. We went to the bar and I escaped into my people watching/observation mode. While doing so, This beautiful lady named Jenny came up to me and said, "You're not really into this, are you?" I responded, "Not really." She said, "I could tell. You're just sitting back and watching people." She took me back to her table and we chatted it up. I met her boyfriend and we made conversation. They found me to be funny. In fact, Chris (the boyfriend) said several times that he thought I was a great guy.
After an hour of conversation, Jenny and Chris invited me to go dancing at another club. I left my friends and I joined Jenny and Chris. Jenny pulled me out onto the dancefloor and danced up on me. After getting a drink, Chris came back and danced with Jenny. We then took turns dancing with an amazingly-beautiful 39 year old named Jenny. I can still rememeber Jenny taking a break from dancing and Chris having me check on her. As we were alone, she told me, "Josh if I was younger, I would date you." Obviously, a gorgeous older woman telling me this was aaaaamazing! :D We ended up closing the bar together that night. They took me back to my car and left.
To be continued.........
Josh, that story belongs on the "what moves you" thread...at least for me because it moves me.

Ohhh mannnn.....now I AM jealous!!
Just think you can probably meet up with the NZ VW contingent!!
VH You are so so so so so lucky! That's going to be so totally amazing! Take lots of photos of New Zealand! Oh, I am so jealous!
I have 12 days till I go to New York City for a month to paint a portfolio of fifty monotypes/prints and research riot grrrl/radical feminist art/girl punk rock. I am so excited to live in the village and make stuff--It's a taste of what I have planned further down the road after graduate (art) school.
I just made my appointment to look at NYU's riot grrrl zines and I'm going to write the Sackler center for feminist art and see if I can see the archives. I'm geeking hard over here--can't wait!
yabs- i plan to!!
idrilasphodel- thanks!! and that sounds awesome! :D have fun!!!!
Oh. My. Goodness.
I just discovered that not only have they made a film of Coriolanus, there is also a totally bizarre adaptation of Titus Andronicus out there, starting--wait for it--Timothy Hopkins.
I have got. to get these.
I spent the summer I was 13 reading Shakespeare aloud to/with my mother. We were both blow away by Titus, and you very seldom see it done onstage, because let's face it--it's pretty far out there.
Titus, here I come.
I don't expect to enjoy it, but I do expect some pretty good performances.
My Project Gutenberg DVD arrived today. It contains over 30 thousand books.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmm.
I went to get a new kitten yesterday from a lady who had taken in a pregnant stray and ended up going home with TWO new kittens!
:)
awwwwwwwwwww yay kittehs
Kittehs are the best! I have to get a new camera to take pictures. My old camera inconveniently crapped out last week.
I miss having animals, but so many of my students are city kids and are literally terrified of all animals, cats especially. Many of them, particularly women, wouldn't even come in if they knew there was a cat on the premises. Oh the joys of the Mediterranean mythos: cats are allies of the devil, they can't be trusted etc. That vertical pupil has a lot to answer for. Goats, cats, snakes---all considered "evil."
My BFF is 4 mos pregnant. She had to have an amniocentesis test and today she found out her baby boy to be is healthy!!
She is 37, her husband is 62, and she carries the gene for Trisomia 13 and 14. They were afraid of that, or Down's Syndrome.
The baby is fine.
She got the call today from the lab. We sat there and cried like fools.
(This is really a Reason to Cry, Yell, Dance and Celebrate, but we don't have a thread for that.)
:))))))
