some people get it!

I just returned home from a business trip  (for a really cool energy efficient lighting control seminar, but that's not important).  I attend several of these types of things a year and have learned, as all of you have, to take my own food.  I had called ahead and let them know, as they were planning on feeding me for a number of meals.  The first day  they came to me and said they were ordering pizza for everyone and would a cheese pizza be alright with me.  No, but could you do a veggie w/o cheese?  No problem, they said  ???
that NEVER happens.

Then another day they had it catered and something got screwed up in the order and there was nothing suitable to eat.  The manager fell all over herself apologizing and I told her not to worry, I had  PB&J and a banana as a back-up and she insisted on going out and picking up something for me (veggie from Subway, but I really appreciated the thought).  Over the few days they really went above and beyond to accommodate me and my diet; I was taken aback.  I plan on writing them a thank-you letter; I was the only one with any special dietary requests out of a pretty large group (around 75).  Yea, there are good folks out there.  They never even looked at me funny.

That's really great!!

I think that is really great too!!! A thank-you card is a good idea!!! There are people who aren't veg*n who understand it (hey I'm one).

totally cool.
A thank you card would really be nice to let them know they did a good job and that might even help future veg*n conference attendees! So thank YOU! :)

That's really great!  My boss wants me to go on a two-week training program that sounds very cool.  I've basically come out and said no, just because I don't want to pack two weeks worth of food.  It's very encouraging that you had a good experience.  I'm assuming it was the manager of the hotel where you stayed that got you the Subway sandwich.  If that's the case, maybe you'd want to post a review on Trip Advisor, too.

That is awesome!  A thank-you is a great idea. Hopefully it will encourage others to be so thoughtful!  Glad you had a nice trip!

Thank you Nutdragon.  You just reminded me that I'd meant to send a thank you to the staff at the hotel/conference center that I was at a few weeks ago.  At each meal, when I asked for something different than what they'd prepared, they were very accommodating and seemed happy to do it.

That's really cool. I just love it when things like that happen--it makes you feel like less of a picky pain in the a** and more like a guest. I went to an award dinner once for one of my favorite professors, and they had a limited menu (like they do for large parties). Not a single veg item (vegetarian or vegan). When someone asked about a vegetarian option, they offered stuffed eggplant. When they got to me, I asked if I could get it without cheese. He said "Of course" and came back a few minutes later and said the cheese was in it already, but they would make me some pasta/veggie dish without dairy. I was very impressed. It's not a place I'd want to eat again since it was a steakhouse and didn't have the greatest veg*n options, but part of me wants to give them my business just because they were so nice.

Very refreshing.
