Time to vent to Vegwebbers (job thing) NVR

Well, I quit one job because of my health, but I miss it so much  :'( I am a machine operator by trade, which isn't a big deal. But that job killed me. The overtime, and all of the heavy lifting .... But yet, I'm looking for a job similar to that (what! Am I nuts!?!?!?!), minus all the OT (I hope). I convinced myself I wouldn't accept anything else, even the job I interviewed with earlier this week (it had nothing to do with my trade). Am I nuts?

I posted my resume on different job sites and such ... but nothing came from it ... yet. I wish someone would pick me, dang nabbit!

Ok, enough blabbing. I'll craw back into my hole of sorrow  :'( v ::)

I don't have much help to offer, but I just wanted to say good luck in the job search! Looking for jobs sucks. It takes so much time and effort and in the meantime, you have no money coming in. I hope you find your dream job soon!

First make sure how you felt about your job. You loved your job because you were used to it or you actually loved your job no if's no butt's no maybe's about it.

If you loved your job there's not overtime in every job so that's something to look forward to. But I don' tknow about the heavy lifting part. Can you do welding? I'm not sure if that's any better but it's worth looking into. How about a position setting up the machines? See if that involves heavy lifting.

Go to an employment agency and see what they have. Make sure they don't charge you anything they shouldn't but anyway. I wish you good luck.

My dad is a tool maker and works in a factory and works in a machine shop and I think that has to do kinda with your field? I definately understand what you mean about the overtime. He works 2nd shift so I don't see him at all except on Sundays and Saturday evenings...

See, that's the thing.Violin might understand this from her dad, but I ran punch presses and drill presses, but I didn't know how to set them up. And that's a major factor in finding a job. I can't set them up. I never learned. But I am super fast at running punch presses. Not to stroke my own ego, because it's not that, but I am really good at running them. I just can't set them up. And it's not because I didn't want to learn, because I do want to learn.

I was with a temp agency with this last machine shop job. But they never hired me full time. And that's one reason I left (other than it killing me). And no, I don't know how to weld either  :'(

I really did like that job, too  :'(

I truly hope that you find a job you enjoy and are passionate about. Keep your chin up. I'm sure something will turn up soon! Have you tried looking on Craigslist's job listings? I see from your profile you live in NY, but not sure where--you can click on your specific location from this link: http://geo.craigslist.org/iso/us/ny. Also, sometimes it helps to hire a recruiter (headhunter), since they often know the best places to look for jobs and often have many connections. Good Luck!

Machine shop operators is a very good skill to have. Even go around some shops and ask if they are hiring you got nothing to lose.

In an employment agency ask for full time only say you don't want to accept temporary work (if that's what you want to do of course). See if they can accommodate you. I know some places can.

Not much advice to offer, but wishing you the best in finding your dream job!

Be proactive!!!  I know nothing about your line of work, but it sounds like knowing how to set up the machines is an advantage in the job search.  ??  What are some things you could do to try to learn about setting up these machines?  Even if reading about it at the librar is the only possibility, at least it's something!  Can you talk to some seasoned workers who do that to gain some insight?

Keep doing little things everyday, too, that remind you how capable and great a person you are-- what a great catch you'll be to an employer-- so your positive attitude and capability shine through in your interviews when you get them.  Keep your spirits and hope up.  Don't let yourself feed into doubting yourself, what may try to happen from the stress and anxiety of not getting the calls yet.  Keep your chin up, you'll find it!    :)

OMG!!! I had an interview at this place http://www.steverlocke.com/services.htm  today. I'm so excited. It's definitely "down my alley" when it comes to what they do. I really want that job. Keep me in your thoughts, keep your fingers and toes crossed, or what ever for me. I need it.

P.S. I hope the admin don't mind the link. If so, you can remove it.
