i got this idea from a ppk thread. it is always fun to hear and/or see people that we just know through typing, so if you aren't too camera shy... post something! i do have a youtube account, so eventually i will put up a video for you all, but for now you get an awful voice recording in which i complain and sound like a robot for awhile!
in addition, if you would like to upload a sound clip using the same site (it was pretty easy), you go to http://upload.plunder.com/
Hahahah this thread made my day, so cool to see and hear everyone! Stop the arguing, you ALL have accents, not one person sounds even remotely like me so that makes you all strange and foreign :P I love how you Americans say "tomayto". Sadly I don't actually have any recordings of me with sound yet, maybe I can make one next week? But here's an old one of me signing in NZSL (my second language) and I probably sign more than I talk anyway these days... Oh, I'm the one actually signing.
Disclaimer: I realise that you probably won't know what the hell I'm talking about, Sorry :( Can provide translation if anyone deperately wants it but Global warming is a boring subject :P
Second Disclaimer: This was about 6 months ago, my signing was pretty arse, and I'm still learning!

I'm totally going to have to show that to my friends who are in college, majoring in ASL interpreting. I find signing to be interesting, but nobody will take the time to help me learn and I'm terrible with the diagrams. You sign slower than my friends, but you seem really comfortable with it.
I'm in my last few weeks of uni (college) before I am a qualified NZSL interpreter, so cool you have friends doing the ASL equivalent!
I was signing slow because I was trying to be all clear and presentation-y. I always get told I sign too fast :-[
The best way to learn is from Deaf people, are there any night classes in your area? Often they run in conjunciton with schools, colleges, community centres etc but aren't too well publicised. It's so worthwhile, I'd recommend it! Signing is heaps of fun. And I'd love to learn ASL :D ooh ooh you could go to night classes then teach me what you learn! Jk haha
I was thinking about sign yesterday morning during my commute. How much slang is there in sign? I was thinking that if I learned sign I'd be the formal dweeb and kids would be signing something for kthxbye to me and I wouldn't catch on.
You all sound so cute! I loved watching these videos of your voices/yourselves...I think its great when you have that image of what someone is going to look/sound like and then its either totally different or right on...usually totally different for me hehe. Keep em coming!
Ryan, nice touch with the kittie magnets ;) at least your fridge wasn't totally bare ^-^
Ariana! I know you are forgetful so I'll forgive you for forgetting to post your fridge tour :P
Thanks for the reminder, now all I need is a camera...

My camera died too. I mean really died. It suicidally ripped itself to pieces in a way I've never seen before. Everything just fell of it. I used my mobile phone for the video.
Can't you get one of your 'LA Hollywood Liberal Film Producer Democratic Pinko Communist friends' to film it for you?
I suppose I could! It will be out April 2009 as soon as it is mastered down and wonderfully edited...oh that will mean I will need a title for my film as well, hmmmmmmmmmm.

Sign Languages are like spoken languages - they are constantly growing, evolving, changing, so as a result different generations of signers do use the language slightly differently. Young people use some different signs to older people and those signs develop and become part of the language - so yea, there pretty much is "slang".
But don't let it stress you out haha...everyone learns sign differently and EVERYONE is a dweeb at it when they start because you get taught the "proper" way to sign things in an official classroom setting. Its as you mix with the Deaf community that you start to pick up the more casual use of the language. I learnt NZSL in a completely different region of the country to where I study interpreting, and most of my friends are young Deaf guys...so of course when I had classes with an older female teacher she'd get frustrated with my regional signs and tell me that I sign like a boy... :-D
I am officially jealous! I've always wanted to learn sign language!
DO IT!!! It's heaps of fun. And I can mostly understand British Sign Language so I'd be able to understand you if you learned! (wait, you are from Britain right? ::))

Yeah I am from the UK :) and you know what, I think that I will take up lessons. I've been dying to do something with my spare time.
YAY!!!! You are awesome. I bet there is a night class in your area somewhere. Be careful, you'll get hooked!
this isn't a video clip of me, but it's a song my friend wrote inspired by me.
if you listen to it enough, you sort of just know me. it' transcendent like that.

That's a nice song! I like that.
AHA! I've finally gotten my durn video to load....I was having SO much trouble getting this thing onto Youtube and Photobucket, first having to use Divx converter to make the file size under 100MB, then learning how to use iMovie to edit bits out so that it'd make some stupid length requirement....
So here it is!
Please excuse the vomit-inducing shakiness and poor "camera"work; this was not easy to shoot when I couldn't really look at what was being recorded...

holy crap...it's not until you see a video of yourself talking that you realize just how bad your overbite has gotten... :-[
anyone want to donate to the "carrot_wench needs braces" fund?
I love watching these. :)>>> It is nice to see a real personality to go along with your online one.
Cw, you are soo cute...and you have a lot of "what not!" :P
:)>>> :-*
CW- GET TO THE FRIDGE! For realz. And, here in the south, we don't pronounce the L in Dekalb. And where do you buy bulk?
I'll try to get the fridge tour made and posted by tonight, but we'll have to wait for Youtube and Photobucket to reject it at least five times before that.. :P
The Dekalb Farmer's Market sells a lot of "bulk" items like spices and lentils in their own bags/containers, but they don't have bins that you can dig through and get a desired quantity...I often buy bulk stuff at Sevananda in L5P (on Moreland Ave). Their selection is AWEsome!
...people keep reminding me that the "L" in Dekalb is basically silent around these parts. but I think I'll just keep on saying it that way to maintain my foreign mystique...just as I will keep on thinking that pigeons are cute, giggling happily at their head-bobbing walk; and I will continue to take note of all the exciting new plant and animal life that everyone else is so used to; and I will still laugh at the weather reporters' idea of "windy" and "cold" (as in, 15 mph winds? low of 58*? hahahaha!) and laugh at the natives all bundled up in full winter gear in the 60* weather. ;) hehe.
someone here is adorable and her name starts with carrot... ::)
i'm pumped for the fridge tour. i like your kitchen a lot. and you look vegan. or like someone that you'd see in a healthy food store. (:
.. is that weird to say?
cute? awesome? adorable? WAaah!?? *hides*
I mean, uhm....thank you. :smileside: heheh..

frigetour!
this one seems to take a while to load for some reason. and again...crappy cinematography, sorry 'bout that.

ah, not weird at all.....while I try to avoid classifying people based on appearance, I think it's a natural thing that humans do. and I guess I tend to fit most people's idea of a granola-munching tree hugger type, but eh...it's cool. ;)
Dekaaaaaaaaaaaab.
I emphasized the L just for Youuuuuu, Courth. :>
teehee
I thought so. They should just officially remove the L.
