Couch to 5K

I know a few of us are currently doing this, and some have done it before.
I started it a few weeks ago just to get back into regularly doing SOMETHING. I have done some running off and on for years, but I want to be indefinitely consistent with it. The first few weeks were really easy, but I liked the gradual beginning, and seeing some progression. It stresses to not do more, so I stuck with that.  I'm currently on week 4, day 3. There is a bit of a jump from W3 to W4, but I'm still good. The last running "program" I did increased a mile a week, basically..and that got old fast. I'm hoping this way, I can stick with it! I'm still looking forward to runs, and I have seen some more tone in my legs. I also like running based on a set time, because I tend to get too caught up in how fast (SLOW) I'm going, and trying to go faster makes me not run as long.

Today was my first day of week 2 and I definitely noticed that it was tougher than week 1. I would have thought that increasing the run by 30 seconds wouldn't be that noticeable but it was! Blah. I think the main problem is that I'm getting shin splints though. I'm doing stretches and everything. I don't know what else to do to prevent them.

I was just talking to my bf about vibram five fingers and he's been interested in trying them too, so I looked up where I could find them in Berlin and we'll probably go try them out this weekend. I'm excited! It seems like everyone I know has them and loves them.

Done with W5! D3 was the 20 minute jog, and it went fabulously. I didn't have any trouble, but I hate our lack of consistent sidewalks here. I love my neighborhood, but I don't like running on grasses, or in the street (with Olen). Meh for that, but otherwise good!

sweet, I think I've decided I'm going to start this again tomorrow morning .
There's a small park two doors down from our house, so I'm just going to go up there and probably feel like a bit of an idiot going round and round in circles, but I don't care!

I'm planning to get up and do this first thing tomorrow morning. That's the plan and I'm sticking to it.

I hope.

That's what I tell myself every time. I don't even have to be at class until 12:15. Yet I always end up doing it in the afternoon or evening. I wish I was more of a morning person.

I didn't go this morning. I'm thinking of going out now... but... so tired...

eeeeeeeeeeeee I did day one yesterday and day two today and I was actually surprised how tired I got, but I did them anyway.  It's still pretty hot/muggy here, so that doesn't help, even with the walking parts.
I'm stoked I finally got it started though, definitely want to carry on, just have to figure out how to fit in three days a week around work/gym/life etc : )

oww that's awesome! keep up the good work!

I'm proud of myself because I actually did my run first thing when I got up today. Now I have to get to class! But I don't have to worry about running later this afternoon :) woo!

I'm on W6D2, which I might do today depending on the rain. It's the last D with walking! I'm kind of sad the program is almost done. I want to find a different one.

I did the third day of week one last night.  I was super proud of myself for doing it, because by the time I got home it was starting to get dark, and I could very easily have fobbed it off for another day.  That being said, it wasn't the best, I just didn't feel all that comfortable, so I think I'll do one more week one day this week and then move on next week.

I've totally slacked on this....ever since it hurt my hip so badly, I'm kinda pissed at running....I think I need to start by walking....I'm like an old woman....

Don't worry about it - you have to start somewhere!

It's hard for me to keep things consistent - so I'm sort of following the program and sort of not. I'm going to have to repeat a few weeks s I go through it, but that's ok.

MIL randomly told me last night I had lost weight, so that must be partly due to this! Going to do my W6D2 today.

I tried running again on my mom's treadmill last night....I finished the full 25 minutes even though my hip was hurting quite a bit...I just don't think my body is equipped for running...I've been taking the glucosamine, but its not helping much...

map my run is good. We used that a lot when we were travelling to try and figure out how far we'd walked in a day.

I did the first day of week two last night, and it felt a lot better than I thought it would .

erin, maybe running just isn't your thing, but it sounds like you're still being really healthy, so don't push yourself too hard. it could be a good idea to just start by walking more. i walk a lot but lately it's been making me feel like an old woman too because i've been so sore. yesterday i did my 3rd day of week 3 and then did a lot of walking to get groceries and stuff... oh boy, did i feel it afterwards. it was hard to fall asleep because my legs were aching so much. i hope my legs will get used to this.

yeah, I agree.  I'm gonna start walking more...if I get to a point where I feel like running is an option, I'll go from there....hey, at least I tried....
