Craving Eggs

I have been a vegan for a little over a year and am craving eggs.  Is there any reason for this?  I never really liked eggs before going vegan but can't stop thinking about them.  Can someone please talk me out of this?  Tofu is good but I can't eat it often because of my thyroid problems.

Though I'm currently vegan, if I ever added back some animal foods eggs would be the first thing. They ARE nutrient dense, but can also be problematic (linked to colon problems, which I have dealt with...and I use to be practically addicted to them). The nutrients your body could be needing are choline, B12, D, omega 3s from pasture-fed eggs, more protein, phosphorus or sulfur to start with. You can try upping vegan sources of these nutrients. Ultimately you have to decide if you will eat them or not, in my mind if I ever felt I had to go back to SOME animal products I would try eggs just once or twice per week and see if that small nutrient boost would solve things. Especially because I do have a local family farm source for eggs and wouldn't be supporting the factory farm industry in any way.

Thank you for your reply.  I have a feeling I am low in B12 because I have not eaten a lot of nutritional yeast latly.  It is my only source of B12 at the moment.  I, like you, refuse to support factory farms. I'll look into some other forms for those nutrients.

Thank you.  I will have to try the chickpea scramble.  :)  I almost ordered the deva b12 from veganessentials.com but was not sure if it was a good product.

What are you craving about eggs? Something greasy like a fried egg? Creamy like scrambled? Something fatty?  It doesn't necessarily mean you are deficient/needing a certain nutrient(s).

I think it is scrambled eggs and omlets.  It is weird because I never liked eggs.  They just tasted spoiled to me.  Maybe I just need to make a tofu scramble and see if that helps.

Thank you

Have you tried the scrambled tofu/omelet recipes with black salt? I've never had it, but it supposedly has that eggy (spoiled, haha) taste. Might be what you are craving!

You should be taking a B12 supplement. They're just so quick and easy, there's no reason not to pop one for insurance.

Ooo tofu scramble with black salt, I will have to try that! I am guessing black salt has sulfur, which gives the characteristic eggs taste and (sometimes terrible) smell.

I do have sulfur tasting sea salt but haven't tried it in a scramble.

I went to the doctor and had my b-12 tested.  I get the results tomorrow.

yep black salt is legit... sprinkle it on after cooking (not added to the pan) for the most flavor and if you use black salt omit the reg salt... if u can have tofu def a tofu scramble or omelet

As a former scrambled egg lover, I think tofu scramble is a great substitute. Bake some cubed potatoes, make your scramble, then throw them both in a warmed tortilla with some vegenaise. Oh my yum.

That sounds good.

I made a tofu scramble with the black salt.  It seems to have taken care of the craving for now.  I have found out that I am anemic so that could explain the weird craving.

Thank you all for the suggestions and help.  :)
