My secret? . . I say "no".
eating lots of fruit. when you are craving sweets you are usually low on carbs, so eat the healthy carbs by eating fruit!
I usually eat an orange, apple or banana and drink a tea. sometime's i'll have some dried apricots or raisins, but those are pretty high in calories, so I try not to do that often. Usually a nice sized orange curbs the craving!
This may not be super helpful for you, but I have a huge sweet tooth and it would usually lead me to buying a non-vegan candy bar out of a vending machine, which I knew I had to fix. So, I bought a big bar of dark chocolate, which is usually bad news for me since I will sit and eat the whole thing in one night (which is the reason I never had any sweets on hand). This time I broke it up into smaller chunks and wrapped each in aluminum foil so that I could pull out just that much and only eat a little bit and usually after that I was totally happy and didn't want any more. So, sometimes it might just be that you don't need to cut out sweets completely, but find a more responsible way to enjoy them.
I am suffering from this too.. so I am contemplating cutting out sweets. for good. I think I will quit craving them eventually, right?
The Problem: I buy vegetables with the HOPE of eating healthier; but I end up just eating packaged food (read: chocolate chips microwaved in tortillas) while my veggies go bad. So I QUIT!! I will now eat as whole and hearty as possible. No more of those empty foods. Rawr.
i would just say remove the tempting items from your house! if i am craving sweets but i don't have any then i am shit outta luck and i am too much of a lazy ass to actually go get some once i am at home
Adjust the carb-protein-fat-calorie balance of your lunch. Uncontrollable cravings after between lunch and dinner indicate that something is "off" with your planned meals. Also, "settling" for fruit is a media-controlled mindset thing. Mandarins are small, easy to peel, sweet, and delicious. Bring a couple with you to work.
i think the cravings for sweets is one of the hardest things of dieting. I love to snack and it takes all of my will power to not eat some cookies or candy. Eating a fruit really does help. Maybe try a no sugar added applesauce? Or a yogurt? If fruit isn't working for you. Good luck!
PS-I also read somewhere to once drink a big glass of water before you reach for a snack and see if you're still hungry after it?
I make raw brownies, they are with raisians, walnuts and cocoa powder.. easy.. and you never feel like eatting it all.. its too heavy or something.
I have the opposite problem, I crave salty food like a fiend. It's sad really, I go through a whole bag of chips in a sitting. I just stopped buying salty junk food and my cravings have started to tapper off. I also make myself healthy snacks like homemade hummus and carrots slices or roasted chickpea snacks to curb my cravings when I do get them.
My fiance has a crazy sweet tooth. I won't let him buy junky sweets, so he is always begging me to make cookies. I usually ignore him until he eats some fruit or homemade fruit sorbet. That usually curbs his cravings. When I do make cookies I try my best to make them ridiculously healthy, so even if he eats quite a few of them he won't be so bad off. I really like the idea of the small portions of dark chocolate.

Me too! Fortunately I have really low blood pressure, so if anything my salt binges might actually be good for me right now. Heck, maybe it's my body's way of telling me what it needs. If you're looking for some healthy salty snacks to curb those cravings, I find pickled veggies are the ultimate boon when I'm on a salt binge. Pickled carrots, green beans, ginger, asparagus, okra... they may be packed with salt, but at least I'm getting some nutritional value for my bites! ;)b
ive been making smoothies with frozen banana, rice milk or oat milk and cocoa powder. Sadly my boyfriend just bought some sugar and we are running out of agarve and no more xylitol...
Raisains sort of help. I like potato chips any type either the packet or roasted... Im trying not to buy raw chocolate... but i havent found any wonderful alterntaive yet. I guess eat in moderation, I usually just have one snack food so i never over do it.
For that salty craving, I love stovetop popcorn with salt and nutritional yeast! Yummm. Like Tings, only cheaper and lower in fat. (I typoed there and wrote "lower in fart" it made me laugh and I almost left it. I'm not 13, I swear).
For sweets, frozen grapes are awesome! I swear they're like ice cream. But vegan. And good for you.
I know this isn't that helpful, but I like to give it to cravings. If I try to fight them, I will try to find alternatives, then I usually end of eating what I wanted anyway. Treat yourself!
My best advice would to not cut off all sweets. Try eating more fruits and see it that helps with your cravings. When I do not let myself eat sweets I tend to eat more. Portion control is the key. Don't sit down with a whole chocolate bar because you will most likely eat the whole thing. Sometimes when you crave sweets your blood sugar may be too low.
I can't contribute to this anymore. I just ate carrot cake, for breakfast. But it was a birthday surpirse from my boss, so it ok , right? :-\
I say eat them but vegan treats only because I think they are more healthier.
When you crave a sweet pick a day or two within a week make some dessert on that day and eat it within that day or two.
Doing it in this manner satisfies two things you will have your discipline when it comes to sweets and you will satisfy your craving.
I think I read something about craving sweets means you're low in magnesium... I don't know how accurate that is, or how accurate my memory is but you might want to check into it.
