Diva Club

Over on yogaferret's "for us ladies" thread many of us started talking about Diva cups (divacup.com) and other reusable menstrual products (keepers, etc). Turns out a few of us already use them and many more (10 at last count!) are in the process of making the switch-- and telling big tampon to go stuff themselves!

I started a poll to try to get a better count of those in the "Diva Club."  Using alternative products can be lonely at times because we are trained to view our periods as dirty little secrets--it is hard to know what someone uses unless you ask or they bring it up!

I thought it would be good to open a new thread more focused on reusable products. If you have questions, concerns, exciting things to share related to all things menstrual, this is your thread.  ;)

So.  Getting the diva out this morning was interesting.  I'm still really excited about it, and I'm sure it will get easier with time.  But D*MN!  I just kept trying to think of all the "techniques" you have all posted.  It's definitely going to be awhile before I'm ready for the public restroom.  Baypuppy, if I was not comfortable digging around in my vagina before, I certainly am now!  ;D

i think that's really cool!! i think it's silly how some things are so "taboo" to talk about. i dont even talk to my mom about my relationships...  ::)

Thank you apstaats!!!!  I got my THREE pins today in the mail.  They are so darn cute.  I now have one stuck in my cubicle wall and I intend to attach one to my backpack.  Hopefully my daughter will do the same with her courier bag!

Yay!  That means I put enough postage on them!  I hope they didn't get smooshed in the mail.  You're very welcome  :)

Hello fellow Divas! I JUST ordered mine on Ebay for 23 bucks including shipping (10 less than my HFS). I missed my chance this month, so now I have to wait another 41 days to dig, but oh well! I am excited I finally took the Plunge!  ;)  I am sure I will have rants and questions when it arrives and I can use it.

Heres' one already:  Can I try it on without bleeding or would it be too dry? I'm sure this has been addressed but i just couldn't bring myself to browse through the last 17 pages again!

Hey, Little2Ant !  As it's been a while, I just wanted to say that I still love your picture--I'm so glad that it hasn't changed and that you're still explaining everything you say !  :)

Little2an- I'm sure you could get it wet with water or use some lube to help. I think trying it out before you get your period would be a good idea. Less mess.

yeah, the vagina is usually uh moist anyways. (scores two points for using two words that many people avoid!)

it would be similar, i imagine, to having it in at the end of the cycle when nothing is happening really but you never know. i don't have problems then. def don't dry insert though-- water usually works well unless you have a dry vagina (tmi  ;)) but i manage anyways with just water...

Personally, I find menstrual fluid to be a terrible lubricant... I keep a discreet little refillable bottle of lube in my "girlie things" to ease the discomfort.  Nobody wants a rug-burn there!

Funny you should say that! I was just thinking I might try and change my picture. I have digital copies of all of my son's art now, so there are hundreds to choose from. I will make sure it is as cool if not cooler than that one!  thanks 7!!

;)  I'm sure his other pieces are great too--but I do enjoy reading your posts in a squeaky little voice and watching the arm gestures in your picture as you 'explain' everything! (When you first put up the picture I mentioned how you look like you're explaining things, but I don't think I mentioned the squeaky little voice before  :-[ )

With that connotation, I definitely think its time for a change of photo! Say goodbye to the squeaky little voice!  I will keep a copy in my gallery in case you miss it ;)  I'm going to look for something more manly!

Last weekend I shared new new Diva discovery with my mom, which was weird considering I didn't even tell her when I first started my period and "it's just not something we talk about."  Anyway, her initial reaction was that it sounds gross.  But, after explaining it a little more, I think she kind of grasped the idea.  She doesn't need one, but it kinda felt good to "brag" about my new purchase!  :)

heh heh, it's okay! if you want to be a member anyways, that's cool. i know apstaats got a bunch of pins for people who wanted them (who don't need to buy/have something else/whatever) so they don't feel left out! we're a club about reclaiming bodies as not being gross and diseased but instead cool and awesome!
