Holiday season weight maintenance

So I ate too much, I drank too much & I exercised too little over T-day holiday. I gained 2 pounds.  I'm grateful it wasn't 5!  :-\

The following week we had snow - twice! And it was cold, so I didn't walk. I did use my exercise videos though, & managed to take off one of the two pounds.

So, this is my two week blast before Christmas. Cardio five times a week, strength twice a week & hopefully 4-5 pounds lighter by Christmas.  ;)

So how are y'all doing on your fitness challenge?

Ohhh, I'm so bad.  I caught a nasty chest cold and haven't exercised as much as I'd like, and my friends all seem to like to make sweets... I haven't weighed and I'm afraid to!

I have been accepting half portions of any sweet someone offers me... that's all I can brag about so far.  But I'll be doing light cardio work sessions every day this week and next week, before I travel to visit family in California (where I hope to get in some walking, as the weather will be comparatively mild!)

I have to confess.  I gained 5 lbs.  :o  I decided to use my brother's scale yesterday and bam, there it was... not that I didn't suspect as much.
I sucked it up and went to the gym this morning (40 mins bike)... and also walked back and forth to school (about 25 mins each way).  I have no excuse to not run anymore either, because I took my running shoes home from the gym.  I decided that even though I have exams everyday for the next three days, that it's not impossible to squeeze in some exercise.  I'm still a little apprehensive about getting back into the pool since breaking my arm, but I'm going to do it this week, i swear!

Congrats on tackling the weight gain and losing one of those pounds, Lezly!  You have inspired/motivated me to lose mine... and I can't even blame it on a holiday, Thanksgiving was almost two months ago in Canada!  Tut tut.

Duckalucky:  your half-sized portion pushing is admirable.  I cave pretty easily.  I am taking your fresh fruit advice to curb my sweet tooth... I bought a load of fruit today to whip up an attractive and yummy fruit salad.  Thanks for that!

I hope everyone else is doing better than I am!  ::)  Good luck with the diet/exercise bit.  I may have to emulate your plan, Lezly... very proactive.

Hello all! I definitely am not looking forward to the holiday weight gain. I've already put on over 10 lbs since I started university here in Ontario. I just have no self-control. I'm to the point where I eat a tub of ice cream almost daily (so bad but so good!) I could definitely use some support. I would like to be able to have some kind of control this Christmas! Help!! :-[

This weekend we watched a special on the 2006 Ironman triathlon. Holy crap! There were some very inspiring stories, but the one I loved best was a woman, a nun, who has done the Ironman 20 years in a row. She started when she was 56!!!!!  :o :o :o

So here she is at 76 & still going strong! Absolutely fantastic!!

Wowie-- amazing!

College students: as for exercise during exams, all I can say is that it reduces stress.  Even though I'm lousy at scheduling exercise during a normal week, I try to stay on top of it when I know I'm going to be using the noodle a lot in stressful circumstances (paper writing, exams, conferences).  It helps with the school!  Don't know that it helps me lose weight: I tend to eat more when I'm exercising and to choose saltier/naughtier/prepared foods when I'm shy of time.

Actually, I have lost 5 pounds so far this season (yay me).  I skipped the office pot luck lunch at Thanksgiving and while I have accepted the sweets offered to me by co-workers, I generally take them home and add them to the compost heap!  I know it's a waste of food but my will power is holding strong and I'd rather toss the food than tip the scale!  Besides, I think the possums are enjoying the occasional treats they find in the pile.

oh, I have been bad.  Actually the week of Thanksgiving, I ran 3 times and got 3 gym sessions in.  It was after that that everything went downhill!  :-\  We got a horrible ice storm, some places in my area were out of power for as long as 8 days!!!  Then I got a horrible cold.  And now this week starts all the Christmas parties.  Eek...to make up for it, I have tried to eat well.  But I am getting so lazy!

It also improves brain function. . .good for exams. :)

I finally got the nerve and weighed, and I haven't gained anything... but I haven't lost anything, either.  Considering how naughty I've been, I'm surprised, but encouraged-- that means I have nowhere to go but thin!

I never said anything, but I also took the challenge. I am happy to say that I have lost around 7 pounds. That is a guesstimate because I don't believe in scales. Obsession over a number isn't my thing. So many factors can cause a fluctuation in weight. I judge based on how my clothes fit, and how I look when I look at myself. When my clothes are a little looser each week I get encouraged and work harder.

To those who do weigh themselves it's importnat to remember WEIGH ON THE SAME SET OF SCALES EACH TIME!!!!!  Not all scales are the same, you may weigh at home, then spend a weekend with family wiegh there and weigh heavier. THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU GAINED WEIGHT. So don't get discouraged. You guys are all doing great I think because it is really hard to maintain focus and energy this time of year. It's cold, gray kind of bleak outside ( unless you live in Texas and its 78 degrees today :P) and all those great holiday foods to TRY and turn down. Keep up the good work you guys are all awesome and i applaud each and everyone of you for trying to better your health!!!!!

Much Love
Cristina

Lezly...I have actually met you in person.  You have a figure to die for, my dear!  TWO POUNDS????? Just TWO??? I should be so lucky.

Actually, I have been.  I have lost over 20 lbs since October 1 and we finally figured out it is gastroparesis due to my lupus.  I have also had a nasty bout of pericarditis during that time.  Both of these things have made it difficult if not impossible to eat a regular meal, hence the weight loss.  Then again, I am a fat lady and I can do this for a long time before there is a real problem.

You Lezly, you are lovely...lovely hair, lovely eyes, lovely attitude, LOVELY figure.  Given that I could stand to lose another 20 lbs, I have no sympathy for you! LOL

You could cut down on the Dragonfly Uncheese, it isn't calorie lean... :o

I'm so sorry to hear that you've been unwell, LadyDragonfly-- I've been wondering where you'd gone.  Welcome home, and I hope you're feeling a little better!

Ahhh, you are so sweet! ~blush

But, no, I cannot cut out the Dragonfly Uncheese sauce! We are going to make pizza with it this weekend. I think it will be a nice change from the vegan cheese pizzas we usually make.
