Junky Food Slump
Seems like since the holidays I just haven't felt super-vegan healthy the way I did before. I'm in kind of an eating rut, being prrretty lax about putting together healthy lunches. Granted, my junk food eating days can still overall be healthier than alot of people's buut I'd still like to get back to eating foods that are super nourishing.
What do you eat/do to make sure your days are healthy and happy?
I plan to: sip more water throughout the day, find my Radiant Health Inner Wealth cookbook again aaaand...let's seeee....make a salad for lunch tomorrow. And some other days.
good plan. i was like that over the holidays too. it was awful. not im eating salad everyday again. thankfully.
My days are full of fruit and salad.
Ah, I hear you. Well over the holidays I was still eating vegetarian and ate a tonnnnn. It also didn't help that I didn't have to pay for any of it. Now I'm home and eating vegan, but it requires so much more cooking and I'm sort of lazy and inexperienced but trying to get into it.
Hespedal & Storm: what kind of fruit have you been getting? Fruit is my absolute favorite food group but I love summer fruits.. I miss getting a good watermelon.. ah. I cut those babies in half and eat a whole half of it in one sitting. Mmmmm.. Damnit, I hate winter. Lately I've been making lots of smoothies with frozen strawberries and pinapple juice.
i can SO relate. try to plan your meals the day before, or the morning of. or have little candies or very small portions of junk food if you are craving something. for me, the cold weather makes me so less motivated to eat healthy food. during summer, all i want is fruits and veggies, but nowadays, all i want is comfort food. =/
This is very normal! Just about everyone has a hard time "cleaning up" after the holidays. Just give yourself a hug and make a new start.
Personally, I've been drinking more lemon water, water in general, & loading up on veggies.
You can do it, sweetie!! :)
Hey TL, I'm with you on the summer fruits. I got tempted by some cut watermelon in the store last week, but it was such a mistake. Not sweet, no flavor, very dry. In the winter I eat lots of bananas, citrus, kiwi, and grapes (though I got a bad batch of grapes last week too). Being in FL, we start getting the first of the local strawberries now and if the early ones are any indication, it's going to be a great strawberry crop.
Storm, yeah I know what you mean about the watermelon.. I keep buying some, hoping I'll luck out and get a good one.. nope. I think I'm in denial. NO, THERE HAS TO BE GOOD FRUIT! Haha.. It's really hard finding good fruit here in Idaho during the winter.. it blows. Grapes are about $3.50 a lb!!! It makes me so sad.. Arghh.
Glad to hear you're back on track!
FYI, another vegwebber swears by my "Immune Power Soup" (which is also from RHIW) - she says it always makes her better immediately. But I'm glad the lemon ginger one worked for you too. Keep up the good work! :)
ohhhh holidays!!! I can totally relate to that. I just returned from a vacation to my meat-loving, vegan-hating home country...and I guess my stay there had a huge impact on my normal diet. Ok, no meat of course, but I had tons of diary, tons of alcohol (shame, shame, shame :( ) and so on...
Now when I'm back home, I really try to eat more fresh raw foods and get myself back into shape.
Wow you guys! That's really surprising about fruits! You mean it's difficult to get fruits in the US during winter?! :o
I feel ya'll. Every winter I try to eat healthy and then fuck it up by eating microwave brownies or other weird random junk food that I don't need. I'm going to start drinking a cup of tea for every random meal I want but don't need in the middle of the night.
I had to take a week off running to let my tattoo heal, and I knew I needed to cut back on my calories, so I've been cutting out junk food (it's just too easy to eat junk when I can justify burning it off...). I told myself I could eat anything I wanted, as long as it didn't have refined sugar or any flour in it. It's actually been much easier than I thought. I replaced my morning bagel with a fruit smoothie. I also bake way too much, but as long as I told myself I couldn't have any of it from the beginning, then it was easier to say no. When I get a sugar crazing, I have made raw brownies (1 cup nuts, 1 cup dates, 1/4 cup cocoa and 1 tsp. agave), which hit the spot and I don't feel so guilty about eating a dessert.
