Monsanto and Soy

What are your thoughts on soy products that are not organic? For example:

SOY: Genetically engineered and DNA-altered by Monsanto with bacteria; capable of tolerating heavy doses of Monsanto's Roundup brand chemical pesticide (glyphosate).

Doesnt that defeat the purpose to better health and food?

Absolutely is terrible for the environment.   I completely agree. However, the soybeans eaten as edamame are usually non GMO. Also most of the tofu I am familiar with is organic, which by definition is non-GMO. Any organic product will not use genetically modified soybeans.

Soy is a huge crop and the majority of it is used for animal feed, soybean (vegetable) oil, etc.

Talking about Monsanto, this is definitely a must watch for everyone around the globe:

And I do agree with the previous poster, we can't be sure that not all organic products are 100% GMO-free. Besides soya/soy is not that really good for you:

Have you heard about the recent horse meat scandal in the UK? Better grow and cook your own food!! :)

Lindsey, I think you misread the article. The boycot in California was because there are companies that sell both organic products (which are non GMO by definition) and GMO products.  Two different kinds of products sold by the same company, which consumers feel is hypocritical.  The proposition in California was to label all GMO products so consumers woudl know which were genetically modified.  This is separate from products labelled organic.  The purpose would be to alert consumers buying the average bag of Fritos that the corn used was GMO, even though Fritos aren't organic.

Organic products cannot be GMO products. It is a violation of the organic labelling rules.  So if you are concerned about GMO, you should buy organic, which is easier said than done.
