Black Eyed Peas - Don't Lie

Blink182's songs pack a lot of energy.
Linkin Park is good for conjuring up emotion which you can transfer into energy.

As cheesy as it is look no further than 80's hair metal!  Bon Jovi, Guns N' Roses, Skid Row, Motley Crue and the like.  Also, some of alternative bands from the 90's (Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains etc.).  Some specific songs:

Buckethead- Nottingham Lace
Veruca Salt- Shutterbug
Jem- 24
Guns N' Roses- Estranged (especially the first 3 minutes or so)
Motley Crue- Shout at the Devil
Bon Jovi- Have a Nice Day
Pantera- Cowboys From Hell
Guns N' Roses- Anything on Appetite For Destruction
The Last Vegas- You Want to Know How to Love Me
Metallica- Sanitarium

I can't get enough of the Decemberists lately!

David Bowie, Amy Winehouse, New Pornographers, Weezer, K-os, and Beck all work for me during exercise!

OK...this is weird...I run or hike almost everyday....yet I can not for the life of me run and listen to music.....it somehow interrupts the f*cked up music I'm busy creating in my head! :o

Wow!  Thanks for the suggestions everyone!  Keep em coming!

Dave Drum, I usually only listen to music at the gym...it's either that or the bad techno or anti-women music they play there.  If I'm outside, I prefer the "song of nature."  Ha ha, how cheesy to say!  ;D

I love to run to anything that's really powerful.  Outkast, King Diamond, The Pogues...  Usually I'm sorta throwing my fists around and singing along to it, which probably makes everyone think I'm crazy, but I'm over it.  :)

Could not agree more. I like listening to music when I'm at the gym lifting weights.  If I'm running outside, I like to hear the wind blow, the bird chirp, I like to hear my feet hitting the asphalt.  I get lost in my thoughts, it is very theraputic for me.

I wish I can listen to music while working out. I do karate (my only form of exercise). The teacher don't allow it. But, at home, working on kicks and stuff, I listen to metal usually (Metallica, S.O.D, Staind, Trapt, ect).

I don't listen to music when I run/hike with my dog.

I contemplate things in my life or subjects that I'm reading/writing about. Sometimes I try to analyze or solve a problem. Or I just become zen and empty my mind. In any case, as long as I'm in nature, I'm in my element. I don't feel a need for extraneous amusement or distraction; it seems to defeat the purpose, beauty, and enjoyment of being outdoors.

Closeyoureyestosee, I used to listen to King Diamond when I was in high school, so very long ago! I didn't think anyone even knew of King Diamond anymore.

Yes!  I think he's brilliant in an evil genius sort of way!

I usually do yoga or aerobics on TV, but these songs always get me energized and wanting to dance, power-walk, whatever...

*Feeling So Real - Moby (of course... ;D )
*Ojos Asi (Eyes like Yours) - Shakira
*Shoot to Thrill - AC/DC
*Charity of Fire theme (I always got this stuck in my head during my short stint with running)
*I'm gonna group my other Moby picks here so they don't take up more space: Everytime You Touch Me, Anthem, Machete, Next is the E Club Mix (all are fast-driven techno-ish songs); Body Rock is good too
*Ready Steady Go - I forget the artist's name but it was the song played during the big car chase scene in The Bourne Identity
*Aerosmith music (especially from the Pump album)

I also like DDR music; you can usually download tracks from those games.

I wish I could be one of those people that doesn't need music to run, but I don't know what I would do without the trusty ipod. I love running, but I need a distraction (in the form of a great playlist) in order to push myself faster and farther. Sadly, nature just doesn't cut it for me when it comes to working out.

One great thing about running with music is you can make a long run playlist (for me that's slower, calmer stuff), a tempo run playlist (hefty chunk of your favorite, most motivating fast music), an intervals playlist (alternate fast with slow), and a hills playlist (for me that's one song that's really inspiring that I play over and over. I'm a dork, I know...)

I have everything on my ipod, from classical to Moby to country. I love the band Devotchka. (They did the music for the movie Little Miss Sunshine. Lately I've been really into Cirque du Soleil and movie soundtracks for some reason. I love the song PM's Love Theme from Love Actually.
