question for athletes

I'm so sore!!!! I ran this really hard trail half marathon yesterday & am sore from my lower back to my ankles, plus really tired. I can go over to Wholefoods at lunchtime, what would be the best luch and or supplement to help me heal, be less sore & more energetic? I've heard of this rejuvinate stuff but I didn't see it there last time I looked & got very overwhemled with all the different powered green things. If I should just have a spinach salad & some walnuts & fruits to snack on that would be great.

Did you already go to lunch?

If not, basically you need a TON of water, a touch of potassium (peaches are in season!), and easy sugars (think fruit, fruit preserves, fruit leathers). Let us know how to feel in a few days. Mostly - stay hydrated and don't stay still all day...you just have to flush the lactic acid out of your system. Pee until it runs clear they say.

And hey - congrats on the trail run!

Thanks. Ive been drinking plaenty of water since yesterday. I think just getting up & moving around a bit helps. I did get the salad bar & also picked up this Sambazon brand Acai Smoothie- Supergreens revolution- its really tasy!!!

And hey - congrats on the trail run!

Thanks!! It was crazy-fun! Pretzel City Sports in Reading puts on the most amazing races. Here is their website:
pretzelcitysports.com. The one I did was the Half Wit Half Marathon. I've also run the Ugly Mudder & Chilly Cheeks

Hey, good job! Totally unrelated to veganism though, do you have good running shoes? That can lead to all sorts of aches and pains!

I just read the "Application" for those trail runs and they're HYSTERICAL  ;D

No wonder you're sore. Definitely, definitely hydrate, but it sounds like that won't help all the scratches on your legs and scrapes on your hands feel better!

I thought you would get a kick of it! I am now officially a half wit! Not sure if that is a good or a bad thing though  ??? Yes Laine, I had on a decent pair of trail runners, thanks for the advice though. I went up to the race with eight others, two needed medical attention: one of which was a bad scrape the other a sprained ankle (and he had on the newest nicest shoes!) two others had pulled muscles that left them limping and the rest of us agreed that it was one of the hardest races weve ever run.

I don't run, but I take martial arts and snowboard (in the winter). I eat Cliff bars for energy, and drink lots of fluids, specially after a hard workout. Stretching also helps after a workout. Your muscles are already warm, and that's the best time to stretch. It keeps the soreness to a minimum. For me, anyways. It may work for you, also.
