Raw Chit-Chat!
Hi everyone!
I'm planning on going raw for the entire month of August and I thought it would be great if we had a raw chit chat spot! I know a lot of other vegwebbers have expressed interest in either eating raw or going raw--so maybe we can help each other out here! I'm a total noob when if comes to raw, but I'm hoping my 30 day experiment will turn me into a master class raw veganist! I will be blogging everyday during August and posting pics and recipes of what I am eating--should be some great stuff plus all the "Raw Blogs" will be public!
I already have a bunch of questions! Can anyone help?
Raw milk--are there any store brands out there or do I have to make my own? Any super simple recipes for nut milk?
Dried sea weed (like wakame) how long do you soak it for?
I don't have a dehydrator and 150 is the lowest setting on my oven--how can I dry/toast oats, etc. and still have them be raw?
How the heck do I make sun tea?
OK then! That's what I got for now--I hope this can be a great place for raw info!!!

OMG, the potluck was so awesome! I was afraid I'd get there and be the novice and I turned out to be the freaking expert! Go figure. I really don't consider myself to be an expert, just somewhat knowledgeable, but everybody freaked over my raw chili and tea sandwiches and I got put in the hot seat for raw questions. I met the restaurant owner and she was so nice and we had so much in common, we've already exchanged cell numbers. Sadly, I was so busy meeting new people and chatting it up that I totally forgot to take food pictures. I'll have to remember to do that next month.
how cool storm! i hope you meet some cool peeps!
I've been buying tons of fresh peas at Earth Origins so my salads have been full-o-peas! :)

Ugh..how can you eat raw mushrooms??? Ick, uck poo.....
Bottom pic, what is the veggie on the right?
What/where is "Earth Origins"
Glad to hear you had a great time at the pot luck. I took a road trip to Sarasota and had lunch at Mi Peublo....they have a raw organic menu and the tacos were real good. I did have mine with a corn tortilla but the insides were raw and raw foodist could have ordered theirs with a kale (or some other green wrap).....http://www.mipueblomexican.com/en/organic.html $14.00 for lunch, which is less than I spend at Leafy Greens when I get a tea and/or a smoothie/juice.
dear tweets, you glowing god:

Duh, they do look like peas. You know I thought they looked liked slices of asparagus spears. Probably because I was craving asparagus and just bought some. :)
Not sure about that the well behaved part though....something about pooping quotations...LOL...don't ever change....... :)>>>
Earth Origins is what Nature's Finest has changed its name to, corner of Central and 66th. They had fresh peas there for a couple of months and I indulged heavily and am sad to see them go.
Are you going to be at the Farmer's Market tomorrow Tweets? I love opening day at the market!
:)

I just realized a week or so ago they changed names and I forgot. Duh.
I'm not a huge fan of peas, but fresh raw peas are the best way to eat them if you must. Canned peas are the devils food.
I was missing the market, but can't make it today as I need to run to Bradenton right after yoga, but will definately be making it a part of my Saturday routine every other Saturday when I'm off.
I forgot that I had taken a picture of my raw tea "sandwiches" at home, before I went to the potluck where I forgot to take food pictures. It's kind of fuzzy though.

What's in there, Storm? Looks delish!
It's a cashew and sun-dried tomato paste with some garlic, basil, and olive oil and slice roma tomatoes.
Raw black-eyed pea salad (I had to use frozen organic corn because I can't find fresh organic corn and conventionally grown corn is highly likely to be GM).

Raw brussel sprout and hazelnut salad.

Is anyone still doing raw?

Most of my last two weeks has been high raw but usually broken up by beans or tofu.
Aw, thanks! I love putting as many colors in as I can. I've been back on high raw too, though I'm still using prepared salad dressings and eating some hummus. I've tried a couple of raw hummuses but I'm afraid I prefer my chickpeas cooked, not sprouted.
you like your salads like mine :) i call mine rainbow salads <3
RAWCOS!!! Om, nom, nom! Lousy picture, but oh so good to eat.

what's the brown stuffs
Ani Phylo's taco nut meat from Ani's Raw Food Kitchen. It's really awesome, though I don't put nearly as much olive oil in as she does.

Same! I love that recipe, but I hardly add any oil, and I cut waaaay back on the salt, too. It's delicious!
Dang, I was rawcos, those look awesome
I just had a small simple salad of romaine/spinach, carrots, fresh salsa and avocado.

SOG, that looks fabulous! I wish my camera took pictures like that. (I suppose that's what I get for buying a cheapo camera.)
